Re: Just general surfing stuff

I’ve only (knowingly) had any lengthy conversations with Russians.
They were lovely people.
Both Siberian engineers, work colleagues of my daughter in law.

A bunch of us "convinced" him to leave.
He must have been terrified

It was just a few years later. Many years later in fact.
And yes. He was advised to go fish somewhere else in future. Never saw him again.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Even back before I moved to Sydney, near misses were common there. Including one I saw by the air sea rescue boat which was just training. No emergency. A bigger problem (well, more regular) was the fishermen on the rock casting straight into the crew in the water. One guy got caught through his ear...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I was about 7 stone in those days How many kilojoules is that? :-)( Actually I probably got to 8 stone by the end of high school. About 50 kegs. I was a tall, lanky, skinny prick. Probably made beany look like Clive Palmer in comparison. I’m the same height I was in Yr 7. I was one of the tal...

When did you fill out, Trev?
Interesting. Good question.

I vaguely remember a discussion between my Mum and our GP. I was perfectly healthy (apart from sinus issues) so there was no concern, just a query.
I recall him saying nI’d put on weight in my late 30s.

He was right.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

You guys are all so fucking old. Instead of relying on your recall or conversations with people who are even older, you can look at the photos linked here: https://www.tweedsandbypass.nsw.gov.au/articles-and-studies/interesting-items/beach-changes-along-kirra.html Interesting read. But hardly relev...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

I think it got a bit better for a while after the second groin got built. Plenty of similar semi closeouts around the Tweed Coast so no need to explore north of the groin. My best barrel at Kirra was 1982. 82 was when I lived on Musgrave St. at Kirra, insane waves at Kirra. It was a great cyclone s...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Yule, there were never any beach breaks along North Kirra in the 50s or 60s. Just an endless sandbar from Coolangatta Creek to Flat Rock at Tugun. Endless might be an exaggeration. Every few hundred yards there’d be a channel through letting the water out but no rideable waves of any consequence. I ...

Three months was what I set myself.
But the op was less complex than expected for a couple of reasons hence the quicker recovery.
Surgeon is happy with me surfing earlier.
