I don’t think being friendly to strangers is considered a particularly desirable trait in Russian culture.
Friendliness is for friends.
Are you insinuating that most RealSurfers are Russian ?

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Reminds me of Realsurf: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter...

Saw a review of the Edinburgh Wave Pool. Actually looked pretty good…..
Although:
Air Temp minus 1
Water Temp 4.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

My old man was hit by a boat many years ago while snorkeling for crabs. He had an impact injury from the leading edge that caused a giant crater in his leg but didn't break the skin. He was lucky not to drown Apart from a run of the mill helicopter crash and an every day boating mutilation did he s...

Currumbin Alley.
Bound to happen sooner or later there.
It's happened before. Pretty sure someone was killed there a few years back. (edit: what Jimmy said)

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Cheers BA I will. I did have a Hungry Jacks burger. It was pretty gross. There's far better options there. Nah, it’s what you have to do at the airport. If I needed a burger I would have tried Betty's. But there seems to be plenty of other options as Womble says. The Virgin lounge for starters.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

"We have watched many of our brothers and sisters make life out to be little more than a merry ride for status and an intense search for the holy dollar sign. Re: Just general surfing stuff

You guys are all so fucking old. Instead of relying on your recall or conversations with people who are even older, you can look at the photos linked here: https://www.tweedsandbypass.nsw.gov.au/articles-and-studies/interesting-items/beach-changes-along-kirra.html Na, anecdotal evidence from mental...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Not sure about the surf back in the neolithic age, Trev ... but I surf with quite a few guy who grew up surfing that stretch and they all say it was good in the 70's and onwards. We used to regularly surf just north of Kirra surf club until the sand pumping started, so I can attest to the quality. M...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

It was big enough to support Kirra Dive, who had a shop over the road from the beach ... and the reef was frequented by divers on a daily basis. Quite amazing that its demise was met with such silence from authorities and the general public. The sand pumping also fucked up all the beach breaks along...

It was the dredging and dumping that buried the reef, not the bypass jetty.
Same same but different ... its all wrapped up in the same parcel.

It's rumoured that some of the reef has returned, not sure how true that is.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

Stiv is half right. They advised that it would destroy the surf and it did (Kirra) ... but it created the super bank, which is apparently a great tradeoff for burying of Kirra Reef and killing an entire ecosystem. Environmental vandalism at its best.

Re: Just general surfing stuff

For example, the value of surfing was used to renegotiate the Tweed River sand pumping contract, and is being used to decide what to do about houses falling into the water at Sunset Beach. Remember when the sand bypass was being built and Rabbit and the rest of the crew were up in arms about it des...
