Re: Tropical cyclone Hamish,
Mate of mine's been waiting for some cyclone swell at Mackay. Spoke to him an hour ago and he's probably going to break out the waterskis - it's almost flat! You're not serious are you Ben? Flat with buoy readings like this..... http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/projects/waves/site_param.cgi?siteid=11¶...

Re: Tropical cyclone Hamish,
Righto Steve you now have your wish. We now have a TC in the Coral Sea. However this thing needs to take a sharp turn to the east. This is no joke. This thing has developed into a monstor. Its now a Cat 5 punching out winds close to 300km/hr at the core. If this thing hits the coast we are talking m...

Re: 2008 -2009 surf/weather forecast
Whilst a SSE track would be good, I still don't rate very highly low pressure systems so close to the coast.........too much wild and wooly destruction on the southern flank and then she's all over once the better winds on the W/NW flank arrive. What's your thoughts on the long range model developme...

Re: 2008 -2009 surf/weather forecast
And could this be #2?
OK, so it's a mile out with respect to the model runs, but with me having a week's holiday at the Sunny Coast commencing Sunday 15 March, once can only hope and pray!!!

Whilst I'm not counting my chickens just yet, it's certainly looking like Hamish may well be born in a few days!!!steve shearer wrote:A few? as in more than 2.
You'd be a brave man to call more than 3 or more cyclones this season Don.

Re: 2008 -2009 surf/weather forecast
A few? as in more than 2. A few as in 2....me thinks we may well see one last hoorah very late in the season (April'ish). How was the Solomons? Solomons was good, but unfortunately a little hit and miss. We were very spoilt in our first week, arriving to 4-5ft on the first day, 5ft+ on the second d...

Re: 2008 -2009 surf/weather forecast
I know it's been a quiet old season in the Coral Sea thus far, but come on guys it's still only early March....still plenty of time to punch out a few in the next month or so.

Without trying to sound cocky, I note my previous comments made last month with respect to shark attacks coinciding with full moons!!!

I know I've already posted this pic in another thread, but this is what I got yesterday morning not too far up the road from Trev's local.

Re: Sunshine Coast here (WE) come! :-)
I also know of this spot and I've only ever seen it superb once. As the guys above have mentioned it's called boat ramps and requires a decent size (preferably ENE) swell to get in there and run down the points. As Tiger has said the bottom is a bit irregular and hence the wave can be a bit sectiony...

I don't know about the rest of you, but this is what the SC was dishing up for me yesterday......by far one of the handful of top quality swell events in the last 6 mths up this way.

Re: so what of this foul dip in the isobars
And it looks like the longer period better quality swell from this girl is set to arrive just upon my return from Adelaide. And with a big king tide and good looking favourable winds, Monday morning could well be very fun indeed at my favourite SC jaunt.

Re: so what of this foul dip in the isobars
Latest UKMET forecast is still indicating a rather nasty tropical storm to track parallel to the SE Qld coastline, passing within 500km or so of SE Qld later into the weekend. If this puppy comes off, lookout for some solid swell. VERIFYING TIME POSITION STRENGTH TENDENCY -------------- -------- ---...

Re: so what of this foul dip in the isobars
Therefore IF it turns into a TC I think it will be named Fred. Either way looks like plenty of swell for QLD/Northern NSW. (just hope it tracks far enough out so local weather isn't an abomination). Gold....TC Fred....classic name. And your last sentence sums it up to a tee Steve. Cyclones or hybri...

Re: so what of this foul dip in the isobars
Ellie might end up smelling ok. I wasn't writing her off in the medium to long term Steve. Just the short to medium term. I agree if she comes down the coast things are looking on the up.....although I'm getting way more excited by the other low north of New Zealand next weekend.....that's the kind...
