Re: Tasman Low this weekend

I see GFS has not had a brain explosion this morning and gone back more in line with EC for this weekend. Still should catch some of the waning Sly swell though on Saturday and looks as though we might just miss some solid highly refracted Sly groundswell later Tuesday and into Wednesday of next wee...

A little further south of you again Pridmore.

Good to hear the banks have held up reasonably well though. I was worried how they may have shaped up after the Anzac Day antics.

Tasman Low this weekend

Hey Steve (and others....Nick?) What's your thoughts on this bloddy Tasman low for later this week/weekend. Models are still all over the shop with respect to it's formation, location and intensity. GFS is going off tap again for late into the weekend and early next week. EC's not really interested ...

Hey Salty, any idea what postage and handling (including insurance) would cost for that thing from your place to mine (Brisbane)?

Re: Where did you surf today ?

Good Stuff Steve. Good to hear you got a few down there. Just one question.....how the hell does one get out the back when The Ox is 6-8ft with 10ft sets?? Jetski unassisted that is. I couldn't believe how far out the back it was breaking in your SN pic from this morning......it looked to be a mile ...

Re: 2008 -2009 surf/weather forecast

yeah Nick I can't remember the last time we had surf less than 3ft up here within the last 1-2 months.....and with some nice developments well to the east of New Zealand shaping up mid next week, and further Tasman lows on the cards later next week......as you've said, the fat lady aint singing just...

Geez, east African locals must be pissed off then that Australia's in the way.....much the same way how us east coast Aussies hate NZ.

Re: 2008 -2009 surf/weather forecast

It's certainly a special sight to see Nick. Check out the length of the fetch on this puppy as well. It stretches from the east coast of Australia to well beyond the international date line....that's a distance of some 5000km, which is longer than the width of Australia. I can't recall seeing a fetc...

Re: 2008 -2009 surf/weather forecast

I have to say Steve the length of the fetch is insane. I can't remember the last time we saw a fetch length (and strength) like this, nor the sustained duration of the lengthy fetch as well. Check out the length of the fetch come later this weekend and well into next week....the fetch extends over 3...

Re: TC Jasper.

I'm still not rating cyclones this close to the coast though Steve (and I know this one isn't that close ATM....but early next week could be another story), but it's just creating fresh onshore winds as it pushes up against the Tasman highs, thus limiting surfing options in SE Qld at least, to a few...

Whilst I don't believe it will come to fruition, has anyone seen the all mighty mother of cyclone in the Coral Sea that the EC model is showing for 7-10 days out........ http://www.ecmwf.int/products/forecasts/d/charts/medium/deterministic/msl_uv850_z500!Wind%20850%20and%20mslp!168!Australia!pop!od!...

Re: 2008 -2009 surf/weather forecast

and to be pedantic its actually CS cyclone number 4.....Ellie, Innis , Hamish were the first 3. Sorry Steve I was referring to my earlier post of at least another two cyclones in the Coral Sea before the end of this season. Looks like Jasper may well have to wait a little while just yet, with my mo...

Re: Tropical cyclone Hamish,

I note that the BOM's latest forecast track is very much in line with the GFS model.....which I have to say has been a reasonably good performer of recent days in predicting his movements. Although it's worth noting that EC did originally predict him at least a week ago, but since he's formed, EC ha...
