Just check out the shots on Swellnet.com of young Sandy Ryan (son of Island Surfboards owner, Matt Ryan ) having to deal with the fat,sloppy dribble at a nearby reef...nice shot of Ringa too.. :shock:

Used to love belly channels back in the 80's... So did Dooma Hardman, he won 2x world titles riding bellys' shaped by Greg Clough. The basic theory is about cutting straights thru a curve eg; by introducing flat sections into the rocker profile you a) increase planing area and b) increase drive form...

The jet-bottom was born in a tiny downstairs granny flat above the Whale Beach Wedge in the mid 70's...A collaboration of Earle Pederson and Californian ex-pat Jick Mebane...( and copious hash cones) They created some amazing 'things' there..anyone recall the UFO's?..Tracks photo shopped Terry Fitz ...

Yep, Jim Pollard was the originator of channel bottom. I recall him moving down from the Sunny coast in about 1979 to do his Fluid Foils label out of Shanes at Brookvale. Top week here on the west coast of S.A...! Monday- 36c Tuesday- 46c Wednesday- 48c...50c a bit further west..min=36c Today- 45c Temps above 35c forecast till Sunday. Add to this a 30 knot north wind blowing straight off the desert..which is like having someone holding a hairdryer to your face..GNARL...
