Re: Board washers

I posted my similar observations on board washing some years ago, and got all sort of nonsense replies about boards falling apart etc. In my experience, boards fall apart when they get dinged - usually in the carpark or garage - and fill up with water. Look after your board by getting dings repaired...

Re: Zipper busted:( FCS board bag.

Take it down to any marina - there you will generally find someone who either does upholstery on boats or a sailmaker - both use good quality stainless zips and should fix you up for about $20.

I've had it done at Newport Marina, but I'd expect D'albora at the Spit would have something similar.

Re: Flesh eating surfers

I am a proud omnivore.

When my daughter was 3, she gave me a cool t-shirt with cartoon pictures of a cow, a sheep & a pig. Underneath it says 'Cute defenseless animals are delicious' - my local butcher loves it.

I don't remember learning being hard, I don't really remember it much at all - all I know is I've being doing it for song long I don't know what my life would be like without it. I remember years of improving, mastering manourvres (board design certainly helped - lets see todays 13 year olds pop air...

As a rate-payer in this fair Council Municipality who has been trying for 5 years to get Council to fix the trees that keep stuffing up my sewer, the thought of $60k going towards a statue for anyone, let alone someone who no longer resides in this area, is more than a bit on the nose. If a high net...

Take it to any major mariner which has a sail-maker or repair shop - they will sew in a stainless steel zip for about $30.

I've had it done at both the Spit and Newport Mariners.

I fondly remember a couple of surfs with Harry some 20 years ago at Long Reef - sitting way out beyond the pack on his big yellow board, letting everything pass but claiming only the bigger sets - heaven help anyone who dared take these off him. He would paddle back out cackling like a teenager. All...

Flying to Noosa

I'm taking the family to Noosa in September, and am a little unsure on a couple of things: Any suggestions of which boards to take - 6' Fish, 6'3" rounded pin, 9'2" high performance longboard or 9'6" classis noserider (or a couple)? Any issues people have had with flying with longboards with Qantas?...

Take the bag to your local sailmaker or ships chandler and have them replace the zip with a stainless steel one like they use for boats. I had mine done at Newport (down near the Arms) for $35 - will outlast the bag.

Meataxe, generally the bikes from good bike shops are all of good quality and reputable brands - the spend is up to you. Consider the following though: - as well as the bike, you will need a helmet, knicks & possibly shoes (if you are going to be riding regularaly, and over 40km each time, they are ...

Meataxe, With nearly 20 years of riding & triathlons (sprint through to Ironman), hopefully I can help in some way. Regardless of how much you spend, most important is bike 'fit', otherwise your body will hurt in places you didn't think existed. By 'fit' I mean the relationship between your fixed & ...

Interesting topic with some good advice. I'll throw in my 2 cents. In terms of getting fit & maintaining it, one of the biggest mistakes is overtraining - ie less is often more. Don't get fooled into thinking that going longer and harder is going to get better results, more often than not it is the ...

Boy - have I opened up a can of worms... Regardless of the technical bits and pieces, if salt is so corresive, then the board will be effected more whilst in the water than after it has dried in the sun (or on the roof racks on the trip home). The more you surf, the more your board falls apart. Ding...

Interesting Trends

Can someone please explain to me the reason behind 2 intesting trends that I have noticed are on the increase over the past 5 years: 1. Why are so many people washing their boards under the beach showers. I'm not talking a quick spray, I'm talking the full shower for the board. A flick of the towel ...

I have a couple of old boards in the the rack in the garage. the 6'2" Sam Egan looks like it might fit the bill.

Great board for a little tacker to learn the basics on.

Your youngster is welcome to it.
