Agreed. The Brano piece was a brave bit of surf journalism. The attempt to portray the Californian meth dealer as some kind of heroic libertine was shit.

As much as it pains me to do so, I have to agree with NC — the American mags crap all over the Aussie titles at the moment. Surfer's my pick, with Surfing a close second. The standard of journalism is much higher, and on average they sustain six to eight visits to the toilet (number twos), compared ...

No doubt Curren has more style then Ozzie, but I'd rather listen to the Goons than Curren's tuneless electriv guitar jam on Glass Love. Unlistenable!

I've done it in a dodgy boat out of Lubuan Lombok and in a car and they were both amazing adventures. You miss so much when you fly, but on the flipside you get more time in the water. If you can speak Bahasa Indonesia you'll be able to charm your way out of 80 per cent of the police traps. Have fun...

The guys is SA have got it the best, they hardly ever get covered - lucky bastards! That's because there are no waves in SA. As for the mags, NC has nailed it. If they were giving realsurfers what they wanted there'd be a heap of groms on some other forum whinging about how the mags were catering t...

Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. Both Tracks and ASL have hefty features on Bali this month, a place that almost every Australian surfer has an affinity with. Tracks scribe Luke Kennedy has even strung together some rather nice words to accompany some nice pics of the Bukit ...

Obviously stab is going for shock tactics because they don't have anything else worth while writing about. Or perhaps they're trying to write something beyond the standard "bunch of young pros on a boat getting seasick then someone gets a b-b gun and shoots someone in the arse then someone throws t...

Yep, he's on the cover and there's a few pages inside. He talks about how many of the people he associated with dropped him like a hot spud when they found out.

I agree, but I still think it's a freaking courageous thing to do. First high-profile surfer to come out of the closet, if I'm not mistaken.

Matt Branson is gay

No, he doesn't look gay, and he definitely doesn't surf gay, but he is gay. At least he is according to the latest Stab magazine. Who woulda thunk it?

goofy

Speaking of off-topic posts that have nothing to do the run of great surf we've been having, can anyone answer this: when I was a kid the word "goofy" was pronounced so that the "goof" rhymed with "woof". These days the "goof" always rhymes with "aloof". Is this an Americanism, or was I just a stupi...

Backbeaches, in my humble opinion, are the ones that are off/cross shore in a seabreeze. They're those little last resort spots when the arvo seabreeze springs up.

In the last issue of Tracks they used the word "Ironical".
Ironical is a word. Check your MacQuarie - it's an alternative form of "ironic". So Tracks were right and you were wrong. How ironical!
