Re: what sort wave do u like best????
Surfed my dream wave in May. Long right hand reef between 1.5-2x overhead with the good ones doubling up on the ledge, barreling for 50m or so and then turning into a big carving wall before racing away on the inside again. The ones that didn't double up just offered large racey walls for you to do ...

Re: Cape Sorell Buoy - I don't get it
Hatchman, All that size is from the W/NW. A small low produced a fetch of W/NW gales right off the West Coast of Tassie on Firday and this caused the buoy rise in size, but the Surf Coast remained tiny and the Mornington Peninsula picked up 3-4ft waves. You can see the wind observations at Cape Sorr...

Re: Summer. How's it lookin?
Scroty, that is just raw model output from GFS and it looks as if they have tweaked the Sydney region to represent what the surf heights will more than likely be at the beach. But where is that Sydney point, because if its a general point for open east facing beaches that's fair enough, but say you ...

Re: Summer. How's it lookin?
I think this has been discussed in here before and on Swellnet but basically when you have different swell periods, they "feel" the ocean bottom at different depths and depending on the period, some swells may be 'amplified' towards certain regions due to the bottom topography, while others may be s...

9 times out of ten these swells come in larger than expected, but this one missed.. Here's an article on the event.. http://www.swellnet.com.au/news/1025-the-imperfect-storm-an-analysis The winds looked to have too much west in them, and this image http://manati.orbit.nesdis.noaa.gov/ascat_images/da...

Re: Summer. How's it lookin?
IMO the South Coast will be a little hit and miss due to the swell being created nearly right off its doorstep resulting in a lower period swell and smaller peak in size than Sydney and the Central Coast/Newcastle. Don I think your call of 4ft to maybe 5ft is an undercall. I reckon it will be around...

Re: Summer. How's it lookin?
Dunno about that Don, winds look dicey Wednesday, while Tuesday is likely to see a straight W'ly (W/NW) at some spots before tending SE/NE during the a'noon. And what do you mean True S'ly swell. Tuesday morning will be true S'ly, you can't get S/SW swells in Sydney.. that's buoyweather and magic se...

Re: Summer. How's it lookin?
Last night most of the models were showing a significant south swell and this morning confirms that we are going to see a large pulse of south swell during Tuesday.

EC is showing the same, but ACCESS is different. NOGAPS is similar to EC and GFS.

Re: Article on NE Swells and Cold water in Sydney...
I don't know Alakaboo..
I think as the food chain starts going the bigger sharks will be attracted inshore and there is more chance of an encounter with a surfer and hence attack.
I'm not saying there is a huge link between the two but you have to wonder...
