knowing your board and its sweet spots
knowimg how to make the most of waves

Well to answer my own question...... A more balanced stance (less crammed up) with a lighter hand on the rail seems to keep you in a better spot for either a shift to the pull through the back option or to the Andy Irons advice on yootoob of diving forward. Avoiding pulling on the rail too much also...

not easy to get good surf there in a short trip. The best spots tend to in protected areas needing big swells. Day to day it is just very average beach breaks for most locals.
