Re: Ebay Bargains thread

So you aren't taking your 6'9" Fatburner on this trip? I'm looking at getting a 6'3" version. I'm not and I may well regret it, may still change my mind though. My beef with it is the difficulty in short arc turns due to its flat tail. I put some MR twin fins on it and it was too loose, so I added ...

Re: Ebay Bargains thread

Actually went down the 6'6" path a couple of years ago. Had some really memorable waves on the Merrick but ultimately the few great waves didn't compare to the frustrating missed waves. Tried another board with similar dimensions but it was a dog. I feel really comfortable on about 7'. I wouldn't c...

Re: Where did you surf today ?

I don't think it was nearly bitten off, I saw pics at the time, very nasty gash, needed 100 odd stitches, but regaining full use of his arm was predicted at the time. Thats just two attacks ever in Indonesian waters on surfers that I know of. Its the only place that I don't care about surfing alone ...

Re: Ebay Bargains thread

Too small? Not unless you're over 90kg it shouldn't be, particularly so for Tuflite. I was going to make the same point as Beany, I don't see anyone of my age surfing smaller boards where I surf in Bali, in fact I don't see anyone my age surfing at all. Bansky certainly does though, last time I saw...

Re: Ebay Bargains thread

Just bought an Al Merrick 6'6 x 19 1/4 x 2.5 Flyer 2 Tuflite and bag, both in good condition for $200. It may be a bit small for me, don't know the volume, 30-35?

I bought it within 2 hours of its posting on Gumtree

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Interesting you didn't want to take any of your last lot of boards Cranky. I do, but three boards is my limit (also I think they can hit you for import duty for more) and none of these boards have been used/tested as the surf around here has been all time crap for about 9 months now. I've been ridi...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

Just stylin'. I'll have to just learn to ignore those envious looks. Nah, I figure its the sun degrading the rubber. Its happened to the last 5 wetsuits. I always have three: short arms and legs, short leg long arms (the most used) and a steamer. Actually, its probably more like 2-3 years before tha...

Re: that wetsuit discussion...

I just bought a 3mm long john and a 2mm front zip long sleeve top, both Xcel super stretchy rubber. This combination is extemely easy to get in and out of and I can vary the tops from 1mm short sleeve to 2mm long to suit the conditions and so I can have 5 mm on the body for those winter dawn surfs i...

I hear there's good surf in Tanzania. Zanzibar has a really interesting history. And the Great Rift Valley is a hop, step and jump away.

When are we going?

Re: What boards DID you take to Indo?

Just getting my boards together. Last time I took: 6'6 x 21 x 2 1/2 R French Surftech Soul Fish 6'10 x 20.5 x 2 7/8 Surftech Fatburner 7' x 21.5 x 2 7/8 7S 3cv, no stringer, carbon epoxy The Soul Fish was great in smaller stuff, great off the top and off the bottom, turns on a dime, a bit shaky on t...

Re: Just general surfing stuff

This 5 minute video of John John surfing in W.A. is intense fun. The soundtrack song, Blind Willie Johnson's 'Lord I just can't keep from crying' performed by the Barr Brothers, also works very well. https://vimeo.com/159564332 I knew Rabbit Hill turned it on and got gnarly but never knew it got li...
