Re: Ask Carroll

Do you consider long term surfers lean towards certain personality types, e.g. a Myers-Briggs type indicator? I ask because I wonder if personality type has any influence on why some surfers let it go moving into adulthood, while others continue surfing for life with a passion. ps enjoyed the book a...

Re: Chasing the dragon

I am like a smoker who never has his own packet. Always humbugging for the next one. But what if I had fully indulged in my earlier days. Would I be more satisfied now? A mate was recently out of the water for six months on doctors orders. He said he was actually happier cause he had no choice. Wasn...

Chasing the dragon

Do any of you feel like you are metaphorically ‘chasing the dragon’ with surfing? i.e. an addiction. Never quite satisfied, a surf only brings you back to normal or brings a slight lift - the rest of the time is spent waiting, planning and chasing down the next session/surf trip. A session providing...

Re: It Begins

IMHO, the last 3 events of the WCT should be just be the top 8-16 surfers and those events be double points or something so the crown cannot be won earlier in the season. This way, the events can be run in a shorter time frame at the peak of condtions worthy of these guys and the title. Recreational...

Where are you at when 'the dream' has been fulfilled?

i.e. having surfed surf world class waves at their best for extended periods with the skills to match.

Are you just left chasing the dragon as always?

Re: Ask Carroll

the other 5'9" round pin is a slight vee to concave to spiral vee exit with a variable thruster/quad setup,.... All these boards do quite different things so I just flip around between 'em depending on what I want to do or what the surf is doing. Any chance on expanding on the purpose of the vee/co...

Re: Finally made the big time. Roxy Pro ad - SEXIST

Aren’t Roxy just trying to sell their products to women? How is that sexist? I doubt there are enough core female surfers or aspirational female surfers to uphold a product line. If not, they may need to appeal to the more general aspirations of their target market (young women) - whatever they may ...

Re: Ask Carroll

There’s something curiously male about the surfing obsession, something single-minded and driven and unflinching, which feels very much attached to testosterone…and I am of an age. how surfing might come to feel if I were no longer driven to do it. “Well,” he mused gently, “it might be more fun.” Y...

Quiver for Vic Surfcoast

Thoughts on appropriate quiver and board features for the Victorian surfcoast region for the average bloke. I reckon slightly different boards required compared to say the Sydney region due to different style of waves. More mid to longer period swells but often fuller/flatter style of waves. Probabl...
