It feels like it kind of never happened, just been put in the back of peoples minds for a while.
See World War 2 and most other major atrocities etc, people tend to forget and revert to type.

Sunbird doesn't seem to like sharks.

Nick, just some anecdotal evidence from observing and surfing Ballina over the last 5 years.
Over the last 12-18 months there have been by far the most surfers surfing ballina compared to the 3.5-4 years before that.
More people have returned to paddling out in the dark, staying till dusk and surfing outerbanks that were completely empty over the attack cluster period.
There's no longer a 'surf in a group' mindset, so once the main spots get a crowd, people will look for the empty lineups and start filling them too.

While not in the same numbers as pre-attacks, more surfers have returned to paddling to Sth Wall instead of driving compared to a couple of years ago.

It feels like it kind of never happened, just been put in the back of peoples minds for a while.
Interesting hey. I’ve read a bit about crowds and crowd behaviour. One thing about crowd theory that really caught my attention was the way in which people will gravitate toward each other in an uncertain environment. This really rang true vis a vis the much commented upon surfing situation when you’re the only person out on a beach with several banks, then the next three people who come out all come straight to where you’re surfing.

I wonder if some of this is happening around Ballina now, people see other people going out again where maybe they would not have three years ago, and decide, well it must be OK if they’re doing it, so I will too.

Well I guess this is more about the humans than the orcas.

Nick there's a bit of research in the natural hazards field about how people return to risky behaviour within 2 years of severe events.
It seems to be a sort of psychological cleansing period, and if nothing too bad happens, or something similar but less severe, we appear to be programmed to just put it behind us.

The footage and photos are insane. Would never have thought they’d go up that far.

They're in the great barrier reef area too.
Most people just never see them because they stay of near the shelf.

I've seen a huge pod of them breaching off Jervis Bay. One of the most terrifying displays of power.

Wolves Of The Sea remains one of the best documentaries.

Guy here (North Avoca) knocked off his board by a big headed Bull. Came back for a second look but decided him and his board weren’t edible.

North end of 7 mile, outside banks, feels the dodgiest of all to me when you're out there alone. Which is most times at that place.

Neptune Island in SA, Orcas ate a big pointer’s liver, with a nice Chianti.
The shark cage business that goes there didn’t see another pointer for a very long time after that.
