Re: Where did you surf today ?
Hey Steve, I’m thinking of getting one of these channel bottomed step ups in a 6’6 or 6’8 as they look pretty sweet.

For only $549 it’s looking too good to pass up.
Have you felt one up in the flesh? Or ridden one?

I haven't ridden one but I've felt them up....they look pretty good.
Phil Myers reckon they surf good.
For that price it would be worth a punt. Buy in person and make sure there are no obvious defects.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
That’s the only thing putting me off a bit. Have you seen how they hold up over time? Any of the sideways/indonesia manufactured stuff? (It is made there, right?)

Yeah, made in Indo somewhere, Bali I think.
Not one of those Freeflights but I know a bloke who bought a Bali made single fin from sideways and it seemed to be reasonably well made.
Normal pu/pe durability.
He was happy with it.
They'd be under the rubric of Australian consumer law if it was a piece of shitt.

I have a sideways made six channel diamond tail and it's fine. Good finish, normal seeming in every way.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
god I got a good one today. it was right on the wide corner, a big wedge with a wide swinging wall, like an under-nourished wave from the June 2016 black nor-easter swell. That wave was in total tension the whole way, it really wanted to close-out and the bottom contour just held it....just a full speed run then I went up and over the this big corner and the wave slowed down and just stood up for me the whole way down the line, one big top turn after another.
I was starting to wonder if or when I would get another peak moment in surfing.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Well I got a fcuken cracker, super chunky right across a reef platform, swung a bit and came back, got a thick barrel against the grain then thought right! time for a pro surfer cutback, and gave that Webber all the weight on the rail. The thing went around like the proverbial bar of soap in a bathtub, got to 180 degrees and the tail popped out on a tiny cross chop, and I got sucked over the falls on to a six inch deep sandbar. Good times!
Re: Where did you surf today ?
That’s super. I’ve caught a lot of closeouts over the last few days.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Watched Tama through to Bronte this arvo.....looked way better than it objectively was. Some great lines though. I'd had a look at Bondi and was wondering about the rippy areas along the south end. Reason wS revealed around the corner which was about three times as big.
Not worth a paddle out given the time.....Went home and watched Snapper footage. Probably the worst place in Australia to try and snare a wave. Good wipe outs.

They look good. I'm looking for a step up too- the 6'4" is 34.4L... is that a lot for a board that size or kind of normal?Hatchnam wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 1:50 pmHey Steve, I’m thinking of getting one of these channel bottomed step ups in a 6’6 or 6’8 as they look pretty sweet.

Lemme know if you are heading up to Brookvale Hatchy, I might be up for getting one.

Will do. First I’m gonna sell some boards to fund it, but when I’m heading up will let you know.Wyre wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 7:55 pmThey look good. And the volume for the stock board dims seems pretty standard for a hi-perf these days.
