I reckon it’s piss fcuken easy. I could ride realllly hollow waves at 18, that was in 1979. Walking a longboard up and down, you can learn that in less than a day.Beanpole wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 6:18 pmGetting back to the Nose Riding is Easy Debate.....in the context of beginner, intermediate and advanced surfer....which the sites use as a benchmark......an advanced surfer...in my opinion....should be able to do most shite on a surfboard and handle most situations. Intermediate...again in my opinion.....can go out in regular surf and string a few turns together, do a cutback and pull into a regular barrel.
Most intermediate surfers and I would say Sydney Surfers in particular here....would be able to get up on the nose or pull into a barrel and if all goes well not fall off. However most can't nose ride. Most can't reallllyyy ride hollow waves.
What do you reckon?
What’s hard is a full rotation frontside alley oop. Surfing Teahupoo paddle-in at 8’ is also hard especially the first time.
You know what else is hard? Rescuing and resuscitating someone who is dead.
Like as if anyone is up for any of that. I mean really.
Forget surfing skill. It’s not a topic worthy of our conversation.

Nick...no one....apart from Loofs of course...is calling you an intermediate surfer. Your mistake is thinking the crew on here are all red hot.
You don't think surf skills are worthy of conversation?

Re: Where did you surf today ?
One of the 15 year old kids I surf with helped drag that dead rockfisho in.
he was foaming at the mouth when they found him- just alive- that kid had to keep diving down and dragging him up.
I spoke to his Mum and asked how he was going and she said he was pretty shaken up about it.
I love the people I surf with.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Oh my god, I truly do not think anyone on here is a super skilled surfer.
I am suggesting that almost nobody on here is really very interested in developing their skills. I mean not really. A little bit maybe.
Like, it’s passed most of us by. Life, someone once said, is what happens when you’re busy making plans, and that is very true of surfing, most of us got busy with plans and surfing just took off in these astonishing directions, like girls now paddle surf 30-40’ Peahi. Tell me you saw that coming back in the old days up the coast.
I’ll happily help anyone here with anything I can re surf skills, but man, surfing has gone over the horizon, people who are good at it now can do shit beyond any of that.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
My skills would improve if I could get more waves at the peak. Thanks for making this happen, Nick.
You take the inside and surf behind me or will you be just calling people off the wave?

Re: Where did you surf today ?
I really think you're missing a bit here, Nick. Like golf or any Fcuking activity people still either try to maintain the level, improve the level or slow the slide. Most of this happens intermittently. Sure half of its probably kidding yourself but Given a run of good waves, holiday, new board, etc...everyone thinks there's something there worth persisting with. Personally I'd say my physical decline has....on a good day....been slowed considerably by advances in surfing equipment. Surfboards work way better these days if you get the right one for you. We all end up as kooks as Bob McTavish said a while ago.

We'll need video footage to determine that.
