I think your fins combo might be to small. With the GXQ maybe try 7ft plus middle.....if you can be bothered. Also the foil on the GXQ might be off. The GXQ base might not be giving you enough drive with shortish dolphin. Yeh try a 7 1/2 plus inch middle, if you have
Back to trying 2+1. I found these two design references that are very close to what I have.
http://nealpurchasedesigns.blogspot.com ... un_05.html
https://www.trueames.com/pages/2-1-setup-fins

Here's Neal:

So after much trial and error, surfing and sanding, I came to a great balance with these fins, scaling thrusters up and single fins down, moving forward and back. Placed at 6 1/4 and 12 1/2 , I surf this 2+1 most days on the East Coast of Oz ( apart from the Quartets now) and they love ALL conditions from 1-2 ft beachies to cyclone season. Also a couple of seasons in Hawaii, with memorable sessions at Haleiwa and maxing Sunset.

So they've given me more confidence to push on with what I've got which is:

6" centre at 6.25" from tail
4" sides at 12.25" from tail

They fit True Ames and Neal's recommendations, and Neal reckons they are good for 2' up to cyclone swell then its good enough for me

Went for an early this morning. Worst surf I’ve had in years. Rode a board I hadn’t ridden for about 6 months. Too small for the conditions. Didn’t check the wax. The deck was like soap. First duckdive, my hand slipped off the rail and I went chin-first into the deck. Nice little egg on my chin. First wave, pretty steep and bowly, my front foot slides forward on the takeoff and down I go. Sucked over the falls and I land on my fin. Lucky it’s the leading edge and I don’t tear myself a second bumhole. Nice little gash though, bit of blood. Next 3 waves I slip on every one. Im outta there.

As I’m packing up, a guy walks past and asks if I was worried about the sharks. Sharks I ask? Yeah, last night they cleared the water. Two big ones feeding on salmon real close to shore. Nice.

Had something like that yesterday.
Pulled up. A bit of swell but no one in the carpark.
Still, offshore on the short period wind swell, peaking all over the place.
Went out anyway, paddling off the beach as the keyhole was a washing machine.
Spent an hour dodging rogue peaks and rogue sets. Copped a heap on the head.
I'm thinking, "If my leg rope broke now I'd probably have trouble getting in".
Next set, way outside. Yep!
Board gone.
Eventually made it in over the rocks. No board in sight.
There it is, 300 metres out in the channel, heading for the offshore reef.
Borrowed a board and recued it.

Wasn't the leggie which broke.
Just the loop.
Check your loops, fellas.

I've just added a zip tie to each of my boards as a backup to the loop.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Neither am I.
I was adding a new loop to one of my boards and thought about using two. Then I thought about the unbreakable zip tie.
I left it slightly looser than the loop so it's really just a backup. Can't see anywhere that it's going to foul anything or cause any wear.

I yam a brilliant tard. 😁😁😎
I yam!

btw Trev, you're gonna get a few days of surf soon from a long easterly fetch that started out past the Cook Islands and has been helped along by some 25-knot winds between Tonga and NZ.

Then more behind that via a repeat pattern. Points might wake up under that second lot. Two happy weeks ahead!

When the load is greater than the ultimate tensile stress the object can take.
