Double pump bottom turns. Urgh. They should get points deducted under the flow criteria.
That’s why i can’t watch it. I don’t care how upside they get off the top, the tick tacky pumping kills it for me.

I kind of like Toledos manic hyperactivity but it's frustrating watching them all miss great sections trying to pull a move that doesn't fit the wave.

Not totally convinced re the double/ triple bottom turn thruster rule. Wilko is one of the best at not doing it routinely. Somehow, it's become a super high-quality level aspect of surfing which might relate more to other design aspects than to the single factor of them being thrusters. How many really good surfers do you see not doing it? Heaps, I'd say and the vast majority have three fins underneath

beautiful long drawn-out turns perfectly suited to j-bay! adriano was ripped off a little bit.

Toledo. It it possible to surf too fast?

Wilson will do well is he repels Toledos challenge for the title

Just saw Wade's heat on replay. Always thought he looked slow at other events, absolutely flying at JBay. Wave suits him perfectly.

It’s not a thruster thing, it’s much more of a rocker thing. On a long lined wave like Jeffreys if you’re riding a pro style high back end rockered board, you’ve gotta find the right spot to commit to a bottom turn so it connects to the lip just right. The rocker wants you to turn all the time unless you’re right in the fall line. So you either find the fall line and stay in it until the moment is right to go to the base, or you have to do those connective little turns at the base until you feel the moment to go up.

When you’re up in the lip, boom! That’s where you apply the rocker curve.

So how are we all going re the Pool Benchmark? Like where is J-Bay in comparison?

The vagaries and emotions of the ocean are far more interesting than even the act of riding the wave. I can watch the ocean for hours, but after 3 waves in the pond I'm offering to do crabmeat's taxes for him.

Kelly did an amazing thing for surfing as a sport, but it is only vaguely related to surfing as a pastime.

Regarding the rest of your comment, it seems like Toledo spends more time trimming in the upper third of the wave than most of the others.

The surfing at J Bay is incredibly physical and the surf ranch not so much. J Bay is Origin while Surf Ranch is touch footy. J Bay is a lion leading his pride through a treachous journey across the savannah while surf ranch is a yapping Pomeranian performing tricks at an aged care facility in Gunnedah....
