Pipe Masters 2017

Post by Lucky Al » Sun Dec 10, 2017 8:02 pm

I don't understand the draw - aren't there supposed to be eight local wildcards?

Did they change it and just have the qualification through pipe invitational now?

That's what I thought. So Dusty Payne and Benji Brand are the two TBD's.

I would have liked to see Jack Robinson of Australia get through to the main event. How's his tube stance, looks like the Karate Kid:

"deserves", ah ah ha fcuk that.

I am wondering if Kelly's competing will generate more headlines than the world title.

Fcuken guaranteed, some unexpected shit will go down at this contest. Everyone's all "Will JFF win or will Gabriel win", but there's more than two people involved here.

I doubt it. He's still a favourite surfer, but competitively, I think most of us have moved on.
Also, I get the impression it's not going to be primo Pipe which doesn't help him.

Isn't Slater irrelevant nowadays? When was his last comp win or final? Be good theatre but unlikely right? Andy Irons has this one wrapped up.

This Pipeline livecam is excellent quality.
The surf is no good today.

Ha ha you're not writing the headlines foamy.

Watch the US sites go nuts.

Oh and the surf for this event will be good to excellent. Gross overcall on a "HUGE!" swell by a coupla forecasters has dissipated now to a largish junky NNE thing that's passing now. Clean tomorrow and good, mostly Backdoor. Then the Islands will be struck a glancing blow by a very good WNW groundswell which is forming now near the Aleutians. A lot of this swell will pass north of Hawaii but enough of it will fan out that Pipe should see occasional 10'+ sets from it in three or four days. There's a coupla days in that swell, then another storm behind it, a bit unclear as to exactly what that one will do, but it should be enough to bang the finish. Winds varying from strongish trades to light and variable and possibly even the awesome SE angle at some point in the next five or six days.

or if he kills it at macking backdoor on the same stupid wizz stick, takes out the event, rubs john john's and everyone's nose in shit and then sells a million of the over-priced unrideable things to professional surfing's new consumers. that would be fun to watch too, maybe.

like in that you-get-what-you-deserve sorta way?

I always thought that was a bit reductionist, I must say lucky al.

Someone suggested it is more in front of Off The Wall which is about 60 metres down the beach I think. I don't know. All will be revealed when the comp kicks off I guess.
