Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
Yeah, when I first got the fishcuit I sliced my heel up a few times on the Merrick Fins. Hadn't seen anything like them till I had these plastic hobbies. Dragged out a pair of G7000.

Fun surfing, but they looked like thruster lines but not as good.
I want Nightclub Dwight dead in his grave I want the nice-nice up in blazes
Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
thruster lines but a bit more flow-protection than usual. and most importantly, no tick-tacky monkey pumping to link it all up.

Thruster fish might be the answer

i'm wanting to experiment with a different technique and materials based around a swallow tailed twinny design - can do you a pretty cheap one if you want to be a guinea pig!

Here's a link for the twin/keel fin surfing at the recent jbay event.

Bloke on his backhand struggled with it.
Jordy killed it.

The "bloke" on his backhand is Matt Wilkinson. If you watch his wave at around 2:30, I'd say thats far from struggling, albeit he was a bit wonky on the first wave which is understandable considering the transitioning between craft.Hatchnam wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 8:50 pmHere's a link for the twin/keel fin surfing at the recent jbay event.

Jordy did indeed look very natural.
If you want to see good twinnie surfing, just watch Asher, he's sublime.

Jordy at around the 40 - 46 second mark. Highline trim just in front of the pocket, standing parallel and caressing the face. Brilliant.
Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
That was awesome. That's really the type of wave for a fish. Same as fast breaking beachies with a bit of length to the ride. I'll spend the next week pining for a mcneill now!. Worth having one IMHO
You had a go on one hatchy? A keel fish? You'd love the drive and carve

Re: Twin fins as go-to boards
I've had a couple of goes on a keel twin. Not really my thing to be honest. I prefer twins with more upright fins on boards that are shaped more like a standard shorty, and surf much like a thruster (go vert) but surf faster and looser than a thruster. Which is pretty much exactly what I'm riding at the moment. Reckon the MR super twin would be a good board.Beerfan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2017 1:03 pmThat was awesome. For the down-the-line I prefer singles, and the lines they draw and the way singles sit in the pocket.

Honestly mate you'd be better off with a better pilot. Thanks for the offer though.pirate_agenda wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 12:33 pmi'm wanting to experiment with a different technique and materials based around a swallow tailed twinny design - can do you a pretty cheap one if you want to be a guinea pig!

One of the best things I've seen this year full stop. All class.

Still stinging for a twinny.
Been frothin over the MR site. The retro 1980 model in a 5'10 would be pretty nice to have in the quiver.
What's everyone's thoughts on foam? If my normal shorty is 6'0 x 19.6 x 2.52 31.3L. Should I get a board with similar foam, a little more or a little less? I called dripping wet that stock MR's boards in sydney. The 5'10 x 20 x 2 5/8 comes in at around 34L (and $1000 which is a bit steep for a board with a wet rub). It would be nice in weaker surf, and nice to have a board with a little more foam on surf trips when your arms are f#@ked after day 5 and you need a bit of help in the paddle department.
Been keen on twinnies for years. Made the mistake of selling the 6'2 M10 Hogfish tuflite i had in 2009. The 5'11 firewire El fuego I have is great, but would like something that was built specifically to be a twin.
