Re: Molokai/All other clubbie stuff
what about you turn this thread around to swimming/paddling/ocean sports, it might open doors to people who might be frightened by Molokai and horrified by the word "clubbie"
Re: Molokai/All other clubbie stuff
Nick what length paddle do you use in the surf?
I was playing around with small increases and it made my technique go to shit. Part of that is fitness/strength but I was still amazed at the difference 1cm made.

Re: Molokai/All other clubbie stuff
Yeah it does. I use a 210 with a Meek sprint blade. Tend to shorten and lengthen the grip depending on the paddling rate, off starts my hands seem to work better if they're a bit closer but then shift out toward the blade at slower rating. I think that is technically a bit malformed but in surf racing it's a bit more about whatever the hell works at the time. The paddle is fcuking super important I reckon, you want to know it like you know a body part.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Re: swimming/paddling/misc water sports.
Is there a reason why you use a parallel blade rather than teardrop, Nick?

Re: swimming/paddling/misc water sports.
why yes there is. When you're racing in surf, or even just downwind in solid bumps, the water surface is super uneven and you don't want your paddle doing weird shit when it goes in. So a flatter and more parallel blade is more predictable and reliable in that situation. Tear drop super curved paddles might generate more speed in the flat but in surf there's always the chance they'll go into turbulence in a weird manner and pull you off the ski or lose power at the wrong moment.

Re: swimming/paddling/misc water sports.
so we seem to be recording our training sessions, what the hell! why not.
Last night did ski sprints in flat water with the U17s and u19s: 15s max/30s rest/45s max/30s rest/1min max/30sec rest/1min30 max/4min slow recovery, four times through. Superchick did it on a board. She is now paddling a 12' stock board as fast as the mid range 17s are paddling their skis.
This morning did a lot of kicking and drills and shit then an innocuous set on the surface: 10x100m on a 3min cycle, descending. So the idea with this one is you go out real slow on the first 100m then try to take a couple of secs off each successive 100m, the last one being the fastest. Kinda aerobic threshold. I swam as slow as I could on the first one for 1.31, the last one on 1.06. It's amazing how that set burns you but warms you, with an extra 2mins rest before the last one I reckon I could have got near a minute.

I dunno, I wasn't clocking it
This girl is like a Replicant though. She's changing before my eyes. She is insanely hot, like 9.8/10 hot, I am pretty sure the denizens of Realsurf would see their jaws on the ground. But she is clueless about her hotness and I am not interested in it either, just in her exacting approach to this race prep. She anchored our open girl’s board relay team to Aust gold last time they ran that race in 2016 and since then she has just built on her strengths and strengthened all her weaknesses. Just a couple of little corrections to go.
