Re: Alternative Indo board
Popped in to see Jon at chaos in Brooky today. The charter company have a bit of a deal with him. Completely forgot about it. Turns out he'll be able to get a board ready for me before I leave.
Looking at a 6'6 x 20 x 2 5/8 seventies outline, single fin with side bites, single single to double with v out the tail.
He mentioned that he liked doing channels. Turns out he's not that keen on putting fcs2 side plugs in on a channel bottom for a few reasons.
Tossing up between a 6 channel straight single or a single to double concave with side bites.
Which way would you go?

Re: Alternative Indo board
Channels are like fins. Or put a bigger fin in. At 20 wide the tail won't be too wide anyway. Do it. Post pics

Red tint black fin.

Re: Alternative Indo board
Get the sides glassed in IF you trust the shaper.
I love the fact you want to surf something with a large fin up at Indo - just be freakin careful on those ledges and shallow reefs.
Need super clean surf for channels - 2+1 won't let you down with drive and flow.
BTW - Jonny sends his boards away to be machine shaped and does the glassing. Not that it matters.

Are they really that shallow in the Mentawais?Davros wrote:Get the sides glassed in IF you trust the shaper.

I'd like to avoid fixed fins if I can. Just a bit easier to travel with.
the 2 + 1 sounds the safer option.
Not fussed on machine shaping. Almost everyone is doing it these days. Hand finished and glassed. From all the reviews I can find his quality sounds good and his prices are great even without the discount.

Re: Alternative Indo board
Probably not Jet but I find I spend a bit of time skimming across the shallows and chipping feet, boards and fins. I tend to be a bit of a reef magnet.
Maybe buy a 6'6 Black Beauty if you are going to tackle that area. Just a thought.
Keen to hear how the trip goes.

Re: Alternative Indo board
Pulled the trigger on a single. 6'8 red tint.
No sides.
Indo quiver
6'0 shorty small wave
6'2 bonzer mini merk for the medium stuff
6'8 single big wave (well big for me)
Might take another 6'4 shorty if I can squeeze it in the bag.
I'm pumped.

Nah, PCC single. Was a little lucky someone cancelled an order.
I've developed a fair bit of loyalty to my local shaper these days.

Re: Alternative Indo board
Picked up two new boards today.
My single is ready. And I ended up getting a 6'2 DHD sweet spot 2.0. Not happy getting off the rack. But that's what I get for waiting til the last minute.
