Sounds pretty wide for a good wave board?JET01 wrote:Sounds great.Drailed wrote:6'4 x 20.5 x 2 1/2
medium rails, easy to ride, good paddler...
Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
I used to have that board, though the older version with the quad only option. Was a stack of fun in summer waves. Didn't care for it too much in overhead surf or anything too hollow or ledgy/abrupt. Good board for weaker softer peaky wind-swells.Davros wrote:Psillakis Quad Fish is a great board/all rounder ala 1-5ft and Tootr description (can get flyers put in)

Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Yeh, agreed generally best in that, I've surfed in 4/5 and it was fine but felt a tiny bit like a small wave board in juicer waves but if it's all you had I reckon it would be ok. He has pulled the nose in and given more the board more lift lately. But agree as rode mine late arvo in wind affected 3ft rising S not the strongest swell and it liked it.

If it was a 5 finned I'd have messaged him within minutes of it being posted the other day.Hatchnam wrote:There's a 7'0 on gumtree in almost mint nick but u might wanna talk him down from mid 9 hungeeBeerfan wrote:I fkukking totally want a bonzer egg.

He's asking too much - $650 for sure. I love the 3 fins variety of bonzer - plenty loose, but amazing drive.

It's a 3 fin?. My days of snap and slash are gone so 3 fin sounds great. Just need some spare cash and a stronger knee:)batoes wrote:JET01 wrote:If it was a 5 finned I'd have messaged him within minutes of it being posted the other day.Hatchnam wrote:There's a 7'0 on gumtree in almost mint nick but u might wanna talk him down from mid 9 hungeeBeerfan wrote:I fkukking totally want a bonzer egg.

Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Yeah I'm not against width, my good wave board is 19" wide and my step up is 19.5", but 20.5 is a fair bit for a 6'4".
I would've gone up a bit in thickness if I needed more foam, but I'm normal sized so I don't know what works best for heavier dudes, hence the ?

Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Yeah look, maybe it is a tad wide upon thinking about it but thats what Juan reckoned , I have a 6'7 which is 20.5 wide and thats fine.
All my boards now are at least 20.5 wide so it makes transitioning a bit easier... Maybe I should talk about maybe increasing he thickness a touch a dropping the width a little..
Edit - just got in there in time and changed it to 6'4 x 20 1/4 x 2 5/8. If this doesnt work you owe me $1000 Boo.

Yeah, I dont really surf tight in the pocket Boo, much more of a horizontal type of kook

Was a genuine question loof, not in a position to be casting aspersions.
And I have heard that bonzers do a better job of controlling wide tails.
Hope it does work.

Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Yeah, I know mate. All cool.
Am sure it will... plenty of foam in a well made/designed board. My level of surfing - early entry and confidence is pretty key to surfing a wave well . I am never going to be hacking big gouges out the lip so just need to have some good momentum and put some nice fluid lines together and draw the energy out the wave and be in its sweet spot.

Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
I've recently gone up in thickness but reduced the width on a board for 1-5ft. It looks a little paddle pop sticky but I really like it. It has a deep single concave and I had to go a up a fin size to control it in faster waves, but now loving it (was a little skatey, not now). The amount of R&D those Campbell Brothers do, they know those boards yeh.
Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Looks that way
Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Bit of a shame really. I remember a period about two years ago where I would see them around Cronulla all the time in quad and keel format. I use to notice a few bushrat twinnies also. Haven't seen one for ages.... F all keels/quad fish going through the second hand market either....
There must be a lot of fishes gathering dust in garages all around Sydney right now.

Re: Anyone ridden a Mackie side cut fish?
Yeh it does seem Mick Mackie was pioneering "alternative" boards way back, I remember seeing a lot around and then s lot of second ones and now few.
