Surfed rainbow/greeny all arvo. Like a miniature right hand skeleton bay. Lips were thicker than the actual barrel.

yeah, the sweep would be horrendous through there.

where i surfed this morning it was running wild and it's usually half as bad as there. just couldn't stay on the peak, ended up dodging an end section and getting the old rissole treatment for 45 minutes.

ahh... its a little gurgly and wobbly.

there's something about it, where it's not hitting the bank right where i'm at. kinda fat out the back and then reeling off into a glorified closeout on the inside.

size-wise there's easy 3ft sets and somewhere for someone who had some time on their hands to search, it'd be real good i imagine.

nth shore actually has surf! tiny WNW and a bit bigger ENE swell. south shore is supposed to be absolutely cracking Sunday Monday. One of the cool thing about the race is that you hit land at a surf spot, China Walls, and it gets every bit of sth swell, so fcuk knows what's gonna happen in there. Chaos probably.

chaos. yes! the same swell which is about to hit teahupoo kinda branches off at roughly the same intensity and aims up right at the south shore.

who's paddling the last leg home, you or tommy?

and don't be a kill joy this year, Nick. if tommy decides to standup and ride some runners, you're to clap and encourage him.

either way, g'luck. i'm strangely nervous, it's like i'm doing it or something.

well if you look on Google Earth you will see the whole China Walls and Maunalua Bay thing.

The finish line is a little tiny inlet down near the highway bridge along the bay's perimeter.

Earth shows all the reef action pretty clearly. Bigger sth swells break way out near the tip of Portlock Point and fan out across the bay, breaking on other reefs almost all the way in.

My plan is to hand off to Tom right before the surf zone and let him do his thing through to the mid section of the bay. He is a goofy foot after all. Then take over again and rip through the last k of flat water. Tom may gain some ground on other paddlers via his surf skills but I'm a fair bit quicker paddler.

I wouldn't be nervous on our behalf, by this time Sunday (HI time) we'll be done and dusted. We're not gonna fight the channel. The channel doesn't give a fcuk. Hopefully with The Pig's crazy sacrifice thing done, we'll be let through its gates extra quick.

Hey Nick, which swim are you doing? My dad did a swim in Waikiki and the North Shore challenge series , every summer for 15 years from the mid 80's through the 90's.
I'm thinking of doing it myself one day.

bought a peak, zipperless 3/2 today.

itching to try it out. not gonna happen today though, because in the middle of freaking july there's a nice little summer trade swell being ripped apart from a northerly.

the bizarre year of weather continues ...

Come up the north end this arvo. There's a few banks around and a northerly is much kinder up here.

$329, boss. i spent an hour plus down the shop this morning, they stock oneill, xcel, bong, curl and hurley.

the only suit that was stretchier (through the shoulders) than the peak was the oneill pshcyo3 comp ones ... they're super light and super stretchy and their seals look A1. they're also $549 rupees.

the peak was stretchier than the e & flashbombs, the hurley A3 or whatever they're called and all those suits were all $5-600.

* be warned though, they're a zipperless model based off the chest zip suits. you open it all up and then kinda have to slide shimmy yourself down into them and then slide the whole neck & chest bit over your head then tighten the little elasto clip thing.

still, you're not dealing with the chest zip, or the back zip with the chest piece hood like some suits ... so they're not as hard to get into as the chest zip models, imo.

wore the new suit this morning.

it's something else. it's just completely water tight. could wear it in tassie i reckon and its only a 3/2. so flexible never even really felt like i was wearing one too.

i can see why peak is getting the hype. the unreal value for money is just gravy at this point.

It's rubber, it will stretch over time.
