Surfed it more now. In quality step-ladder building Point surf. And fun, dribbly left wedges at tallows.

There's deffo something new, something good and something free and easy happening here.

On the small lefts, it got up to planing speed very quickly; had that same drag free yet lifty positive sensation as backhand. The fin feels drag free yet not in a neutral way....you can feel the fin at all times...it provides lift that tends to make the tail ride higher, and with the increased pivot that enables some really cool fresh lines to be drawn.
I'm really digging this fin.

It's sensitive, as all singles are, to fore/aft adjustment in the box. Thanks for that tip Boo.

I would've shifted it all the way back in the finbox.
Yeah, exactly. I had a spitfire fin for a while that felt very similar. Upright, with reverse rake, of course it's going to want to do short snappy turns.

My JD keel fish keels have reverse rake. IMHO I get tonnes of drive from all that base, but the reverse rake helps it come around much tighter than standard keels.

seems like some extra sizzle in the steak caused by the tubercle leading edge and width of the fin......xtra lift and drive?

Would have to blind test against a spitfire fin to be sure.

hows the knee holding up Beery?

Hey Steve, not too bad. Missed a great opportunity this gone weekend to try it, but I'm officially on the the hunt for a small fat wave. Almost light enough to get out before work so should get out soon. More than likely just trimming for a while on the mal, but, hey, it's one step closer to getting back on the JD's again.

Speaking of JD's, here's pics for boo.

This ones just showing off the sexy timber :)

Can you try it without side fins Steve?. The octafish you tried it in would be an interesting comparison to just purely a single. I found my spitfire great, but it could be way too loose, as in, once you initiated a hard turn, if you were too forcefull it would just keep going. Almost spinning. I used mine for a few months then sold it I think. Now a greenough flex fan. But my experience is only with longboards. Though I may have tried the spitfire in my old more 6'10" egg. Was a few years ago now.

I'm really happy with mine, and the Bonzers fins with the future base for one of my other boards.
The BLEF fin is fairly squirrely if you have it too far forward in the box but if you pull it back about 2" from where you would have a 9" cutaway, it reall gives a nice point around which to pivot. Paddling is pretty drag free compared to a thruster or even a 2+1 set up with Bonzer FCS fins as side bites.

I found on my 9ft Outer Island I had to keep drive on it throughout the entire turn and it handled good hollow Merimbula with much fuss and was able to holder a higher line than I would consider on any other single fin.

Had a concern about 3d printing durability but so far so good!
Conclusion: I like :B

Wasn't far from you today, ots. Had a look around Eden because we didn't want to bush walk here (Mallacoota) in pissing down rain

I'm running out of time to get Bastion Point on. Local guy tells me that since the new boat ramp works, it's a better wave

well, it seems a reasonable question given the nut and bolt is at the front of the fin box.

Strange thing about all my longboard fins since the sixties the nut and bolt has always been at the front.
Except for the other nut on the deck. :-o

Head nut same one that holds the steering wheel :d never thought I'd have an exact fit smiley.
Have you almost left Mexico heading north by any Chance swvic? The bar was epic on Sunday and pleasantly good today, since the rest of Victoria except Grooter seem to be here why not?

Knew which nut you were talking about, just a shitty attempt at humour

Nah, I'm way back at home now. Went to Eden on a wet day - just for a look so no board. There were a couple of groms at small Aslings Beach. Was told later that Saltwater (?) would have been on. All I got was a couple of days of fun small peaks, but appreciated the warm water. Was really hoping to get Bastion on. Looked a chance but didn't deliver. Had a great couple of weeks nevertheless

all my fin box fins (single fins and quads) from the 70s/early 80s have had the nut and bolt at the rear. is this some longboard/shortboard (aka kneeboard) division?
