O rly? What dates? What budget? A lot of Australians go with the Australian guy who's sewn up the local market that targets foreigners. Lodge Nagano/Villa Nozawa/etc. If they are full (they are) they direct you to their "friends" - locals who own other lodges in the village. You can try to go direct through the other owners but Mark has done a good job offering packages etc.

He (is) was a Qantas hostie, who bought a couple of properties and it snowballed (excuse the pun) and he now owns several and has a good little niche going. He is helpful beyond what is required and it's a nice easy introduction to Japan without throwing yourself in the deep end.

forums.ski.com.au have lots of Nozawa info, including a couple of lodge owners.

You can try to go direct to other owners but there can be a major language barrier.

We're staying with other owners. They speak a little English. I speak zero Japanese.

It's a great town. The ski hill is quaint. The snow can make up for it. The town trumps the downfalls of the hill.

From the sounds of it there will be many, many Australians now. It's been almost a decade since I was there and there were less than a handful then. Different now.

Going to be there for Dosojin Matsuri?
No I am there a week or so later. Late jan for 8 or 9 days.when are you guys there? I'll ski the lot my partner will have a day off as she's not so keen. Budget of $200 or so plus lifts tickets a day but would rather pay less. I got a quote for Gastof Schi Heil and another place. I emailed Mark today but he's booked out in Villa Nozwawa but does have a vacancy in Schneider, but my partner would rather be in town.

Got back last week from NZ. Skied CP, Remarks and Cardona and the conditions were perfect bluebird with pretty good snow courtesy of a dump the week before. Cardrona in particular was very nice.

My brother started his 2 @ 4. They both ski very well for 6 and 8 years. 8 year old in particular can ski most of the mountain, the 6 year old just flies down in a pizza, pretty incredible to see, especially when he stuck a decent jump!

We're staying at Address Nozawa.
Sort of a western style serviced apartment but with tatami rooms- no restaurant. Not cheap.

Not really where I would've chosen (hill or resort) but the folks are picking up the tab for accom and flights so I'm not going to argue.
We have ages from 4-60 and a lot of non-skiers.

I speak some basic Japanese, spent a season working there 13 years ago and did some at school.

Cheers looks really handy. Mark got back to me again with another option which looks worthwhile-might even be we here you are?'Boo your place looks nice! Would be handy to speak some Language- I am pretty busy with some study as well as work but was hoping to try to learn some basic before I went.

It's a small place and world Legion. First Perth and now Nozawa. Meet up for a ski?

All this stuff is gold, legion. Thanks.
We'll have grandparents and siblings to shuffle the kids to ski school if the early season is good. I'm approaching it as an experience foremost and any good days are a bonus.

Great photos, Legion.

You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Wow, there is some brilliant info there. Thanks 3-)

I am a intermediate after not skiing for over 20 years. Was handling the blue runs in NZ and at speed by the end, so definitely not in your league.

We are just finalising the accommodation this week and this will be very helpful, decided to stay 10 days and do a monkey trip whilst there (my concession). My partner is still upper green/low blue but she'll improve over the week. She had a chance when I took her down a few blues in NZ #*! I ended up skiing with her skis over my shoulder whilst she did the walk of shame.

 yes it would be awkward suggesting an Onsen rendezvous. Much better to meet with our pants on IMO. Looking forward to the Japan experience almost as much as the snow.

When I was working over there and the locals didn't realise I spoke Japanese I got some funny comments in the rotenburo.
My family is pretty relaxed about nudity, and it is hard to keep clothes on the Swedes at the best of times.
Legion wrote:The snow can be confidence-inspiring for intermediates. If it's good, they learn heaps because it's soft when they fall and they don't slide and the skis go slower. It's often good and will be in late Jan so your timing is good.
Too right.
I took my wife cat boarding after 2 days on a snowboard, thigh deep powder meant that avi danger was the only thing you really needed to worry about.
She has done a lot of skiing, though.

I used to be advanced/expert, I reckon I'd have a lot of fun riding with you Legion.
But there isn't any way you can board with really top skiers if it is technical or super steep.
