puffy white cumulus high pressure tradewind clouds.

pre-frontal band nor-west clouds .

Low level clouds streaming into developing low pressure, particularly hybrid systems forming off the SEQLD coast.

there's plenty in that.

I shed a tear on identifying a mackerel sky.
It's one my late bro used to like to point out to me.

I get them in my coffee sometimes too.

A mackerel sky is a collection of clouds in lines that kind of resemble the markings of a mackerel.

Had a nice black storm front move in from the NW earlier. Its gone now ... and an eerie yellow hue has invaded the evening sky.

yep. And more significantly that it indicates reasonably settled weather.
Its pattern is usually the after effect of unsettled conditions, now heralding stable weather to follow.

isn't the cloud broken up into that pattern as a result of it mixing with really cold air? shearer?

no, thats the pre-frontal cirrus. The mares tails.

thats a result of decaying frontal systems or low pressure encountering stable high pressure.

I read recently that Koels are finding their way south to Bega and to Orange in the west, beyond their previous range.
Shit's getting real.

I thought mares tails were cumuli stratus.
The mackerel sky type thing is cumuli cirrus or cirrus.
The cumulus part is the fluffy bit.

The ants in central Qld were the worst I've ever seen them, all carrying larvae to higher ground.
