Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
Over the years I have tried watching surfing contests, live and of late on the computer and it's just plain boring. The only time I really enjoy watching is whilst I am paddling back out.
Do anyone else find it boring to watch?

Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
Nope. Especially when theres good waves. Best thing Fuel ever did. Great viewing on a big TV.

It shits all over watching Cricket, Cycling, Cricket, golf, cricket, AFL - unless your team is playing, Cricket, two scrub NRL teams fumbling a ball in the rain and cricket.
Even in bad waves it's better then the above mentioned.

Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
what about cricket? pretty awesum. that and the girls' surfing connie at Bells..
Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
The only one of those I like watching is AFL, any team as long as it's a good game way more exciting than surfing. I like watching surfing, but really only before I go out, if I see good surf, I just have to go. Used to pull up in the Bell's carpark years ago when the Easter contest was on, back when you could watch the trials from your car, all me and me mates could say was, fu##, that looks good lets go surfing, even when the waves are crap, I watch for a little while and I have to go somewhere to surf.Braithy wrote:It shits all over watching Cricket, Cycling, Cricket, golf, cricket, AFL - unless your team is playing, Cricket, two scrub NRL teams fumbling a ball in the rain and cricket.

Watching surfing on tv, can't hack the commentary, it's ridiculous.
Ke11y Slater, great surfer but he's got nothing else has he. (Okay he does have 10's of millions of $)
Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
Don' t know if I'd go as far to say watching surf comps is boring, but I'm not that into watching the comps.I might watch a few highlights, but I'd mutch rather be surfing myself than watching it. I find the commentary pretty lame too to be honest. I guess you can't please everyone.
I could not give much of a toss about who beats who or who is going to win what, but I do have a preference for the Aussies, no matter who.
Out of some of my mates I've found the ones who surf very well seem to be the ones who are not all that into watching surf comps. Possibly because they get so much out of their own surfing, they get less out of watching someone else do it. They also tend to not buy surf mags and don' t wear the latest trendy surf label clothing either. Not sure if that observation of mine is reality in the general surf world or not ?
If I had to watch a comp I'd rather watch Bells, Trestles or J Bay than Chopes or Pipe as an example where it's more just taken off and pull in rather than turns.
I used to work with a bloke who played cricket for Australia ( briefly). He told me that he wasn't that into watching cricket, coz he loved playing it too much.Makes sense really.

I'll watch surfing. Watch guys I like and try use things they do to improve my surfing. Like where they are on a wave or lines they draw and style. Especially style. I'm always looking at style, because basically... I lack it.
I agree with Natho, I like the beachbreak and point events like Bells, Jbay and Trestles etc ...

Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
yes but as a spectator surfing often lacks a lot of the spirit jeu de vive that other contests have in spades

Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
Shit eh, all the really super good surfers I know spend large amounts of their spare time gossiping online about surfing, watching whatever new Insta-twit-youtube-Book idiocy has surfaced, and watching heats of whatever WT event happens to be going on at the time.Natho wrote:Out of some of my mates I've found the ones who surf very well seem to be the ones who are not all that into watching surf comps. Though they do tend to view on their own time via heat analyser etc rather than be pinned to the screen watching Jeremy outpointing Raoni or whatever.
Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
I hate watching myself surfing, I'd much rather live in the fantasy world that my surfing looks as good as it actually feels at the time, my awkward style of surfing is best hidden in the barrel.Nick Carroll wrote:Ha ha I bet you wouldn't find it boring if you were watching yourself.crustt wrote: Do anyone else find it boring to watch?

Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
I have less than zero interest in watchin female pro surfing
Unless its topless
And even than they would need a big rig hold my interest for more than half a wave

Re: Does anyone else find watching surfing boring?
I do
Unless it is big waves or Bells. For some reason I can handle watching Bells, maybe because it is a bit closer to home, I'm not sure why really.
AFL/VFL, Cricket, Motor Racing I'll always watch over surfing.

Watching surfing contests in great waves is da bomb.......almost as good as watching porn.
Seeing Slater win in the final ten seconds (Round 3 heat six) against that Nic Muscoft @ Bells is as good as sport gets.
Love it!

Bells is one of my least fave contests to watch (and I grew up surfing it). Especially when small. Too many cutbacks, bouncing across the flat sections. I much prefer a wave like Trestles for comp watching.Grooter wrote: For some reason I can handle watching Bells, maybe because it is a bit closer to home, I'm not sure why really.
