boring out hole for tube stringers

Post by marcus » Fri Jul 09, 2010 11:39 am

G'day all
I have an old board that just doesn't cut it anymore in the tube.
it flexes and folds just enough that when the shocky hits the barrels all over, no speed out of a bottom turn scoop.
I could give it to my wife to ride or i could fix it by putting carbon fibre stringers in it.
anyone know how to drill or cut out the long board length hole for a stringer the size of a fishing rod blank about 15-20mm OD?

If it's well engineered it's beautiful .

are we overthinking it?
you put the plugs in with a screwdriver, could you just either sharpen the rod itself (though apparently sanding carbon is a pain in the ars.e), or glue some sharp metal onto the top and twist it in?

cool ideas fellas
i wonder how the factories do it?
i didn't get to learn at manta back in the day as terry flemming wasn't keen on stringers.
said polypropylene cores didnt need it.

anyone thought of using these stingers on a stand up surfboard?

You could heat the bejesus out of a piece of reo. That way it will glide in and the heat will seal the cells around it.
