THIS MONTHS TRACKS MAG

Post by boardscape avalon » Thu Feb 05, 2009 6:20 pm

was told by a mate to go get it,as there is an article reguarding avalon...AV CATS... normally dont buy the mags any more as i prefer...talk . photos and info in real time....REAL SURF...irking at the $9 price tag ,i thought bugger it, its about my old hood...get it home and have a read.. well well the article leaves lots of fact on the editing floor...to say the least and really says nothing about the original av guys.i then move on hoping to find something of reading value....the rest of the mag is basically an advertorial SURFBOARD BUYERS GUIDE complete and utter CRAP......possibly the worst tracks ive ever seen.... its sad to think of such an icon of aussie surfing evolving into this...please do ya selves a favour and leave it on the shelf..never written to a mag before but i feel compelled to now!

I used to be a fan of the late 90's / early 00's mag UNDERGROUND SURF. Wish it came back.

It’s sad and true but I miss the old Tracks
The paper was better for wiping arse cracks
Tracks may have been cheap but the content was great
And the contributors letters were always first rate
What about the Captain and his good mate Astro
Goodvibes was hilarious … I was sad to see him go
The founding fathers of Tracks were a pretty cool bunch
Never afraid of the consequences from a journalistic punch
They put it all out there and harbored no regrets
With their hearts on their sleeves they gained our respect
But then there came the day when Tracks joined the fold
Of the glossy magazine circus and its soul was sold
Now it’s all about advertising and not facts … that’s a fact
There’s no use lamenting the old Tracks won’t come back
Corporate dollars are driving magazine content these days
The media has dropped its bundle in so many ways
Lost its integrity … sold out … gone to far
Goodbye Track … farewell … au revoir.

in the mid to late 80s a bunch of mates and i lived in a place at south whale..i lived (next door with my chick,) so i was always over at the boys place  any way it was tenant inspection time so we gave it the annual cleanup.. sure enough under the seat in this bay window kind of thing was hundreds of early editions... unreal to read . dont know what ever happened to them but mick mock would have had a field day..he sells them for like $25 each.. that was the house where the mag was started....had its own little track down through the lantana straight onto the beach... awesome place... got knocked over and redeveloped of course...

Not so sure on this. There are many parts of the media network going into new places. I am thinking citizen journalism, blogging, podcasting, subcultural telecasting, etc. I find the difficulty is now sifting through the avalanche that is media in any field. I wonder what will happen to Tracks, how long it will last, etc? The crew who work there must stress about their jobs sometimes, it would be a bit of a worry. Then again, maybe the coin is flooding in?

Serious question here...why exactly did you think the board guide was so bad? I'm a board consumer and found it useful to see what's out there. Is it that the descriptions of the product aren't accurate or something from a shapers perspective?

I love advertising...its that, gasoline smell...its like victory..some day this wars gonna end.

Incredibly lame, unintelligent, uninformative comments about standard issue potato chip thrusters (eg "board went really good).
Pure advertorial drivel.
Just junk of the highest order.....not worth the paper it's printed on.

Tracks, get your myths right, go back consult your earliest issues, learn about Avalon as it really was!
Not your latte induced hallucinations go back to the days of Bob Evans, Ted Spencer, Fly, Jonty, and the crew that came with the loss of length in boards. Some of them may still be elder statesman at Av maybe not.
I'm old enough to know that each current young crew think they discovered surfing and sex, they only expand upon where we have already been.
Jaffa, I'm opinionated, and I'm sometimes right. So?
