channels I'm not steve on this one but if someone wanted to have a CT at a place like Lennox, a great surfing community but one with no history of admitting that level of competition in the door and indeed an explicit history of rejecting it, the way to go would be to spend years building bridges. Find out what everyone needed over time, and make sure you provided it and more. Under promise, over deliver. And actually, learn some lessons for yourselves in the process. It can be done.
Beyond,
- Promoting Lennox as an international surf destination,
- giving a few local heavies short term WSL employment
- and a couple of local wildcards
What other things can the WSL offer?

exactly.
very limited benefits for very few people in exchange for high ongoing costs for everyone else.
It's not like people here haven't had 30 years of seeing what happens an hour up the road.
No, I think it would take a complete re-jig of the WSL and CT structures before anyone would look at it in good faith.

Don’t you guys understand trickle down economics? If you let the big guys have a bit more of what is already yours, eventually some will flow down to you, maybe.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Fcuk, if I had a hand in the WSL I'd be spending a lot of that Santa Monica salary money on doing good shit for surf communities everywhere I could.
Or just visiting with the top surfers from time to time, with no agenda beyond meeting the local kids and helping judge a club contest or whatever, that would be a start.

“ Like these CTs do not have to be destructive things for surf communities at all.”
Any event which promotes a break as a destination to visit is ,by the metric of any surfer, a destructive event. Excluding those surfers who need pro surfing to earn a living and who are willing to contort themselves into all kinds of thinking to suit the narrative they require to justify inflicting their sh1t on everyone else.

Surely local councils and regional governments are tasked with boosting their economies? I find it astonishing that they would acquiesce to a vocal minority. Sod the kids, won’t someone think of the local businesses who had the prospect of making some serious bank torn from them by a noisy bunch of spoiled babies who didn’t want to share their toys

I’m still shaking my head in disbelief about it all. Do you think that the FIS (whose business model the WSL appears to have copied wholesale) wanders the chilly corners of ski resorts trying to win over the miserable locals with shiny baubles before they ask the regional governments if they want to lavish gold upon them for the privilege of bringing a race to their town? Of course they don’t
