Onya Beans.

From what I’ve heard and read. Mavericks is a particular heavy wave. I assume due to the swells it gets and I assume the bathymetry?

Calm down Foamy, no one is immune from getting their pants pulled down and their bums smacked on here from time to time, not even Nick. I am sure he can take a bit of discipline.

I richly enjoy Nick’s extensive knowledge, experience and strong emotion about top level surfing. I hope he continues to generously contribute. Just like I enjoy Cranked’s Bali reports. GSTQ’s view from Wales. Sniff’s Mt Tambourine updates and his provocative art culture assessments. MM’s wit and mechanical advice. Offy and ‘boo contributions from the U.S. etc etc etc

Nick, let ‘er rip old son. I can take it

Nick’s just pissed off that his area is open again to the scum from the rest of Sydney.

Mavericks sure is one of those spots where the surfers seem to more stoked than the general surfing public.

I’d rather watch Dorian at Jaws

I think the point is Nick suspects we civilians possibly don’t fully conceive just how epic Peter Mel’s paddle-in ride was. I think that’s right.
In The big June swells in NSW, I got cleaned up by something in the 6-8 foot range. I thought I was going to drown. Mel’s wave was 4-5 times bigger, the confidence to be out there, ability to execute so calmly. It was incredible, and I’m really comfortable about never experiencing something even a 1/3 that size.
Probably best you don’t compare.

Sean Collins did a great piece for Surfline. Here's an updated article, which includes the link to the original one:
https://www.surfline.com/surf-news/mech ... reak/46358
Sean details the exact best conditions for Mavericks, namely:

Best Tide: Low to mid, ideally incoming
Best Swell Direction: West to west-northwest (270-295°).
Best Swell Period: Longer period, over 16 seconds.
Best Wind: Calm or very light.
Best Size: Over 20-foot faces.

What I would like to know is does Sean (or someone) program these conditions into their surf forecast software?

If so, for this and other breaks, then I would be forking out my hard earned cash for a subscription pronto.

I doubt that it is though, it's just too much work, but I'd gladly do the coding donkey-work for it.

The wave cam driven software may deduce it though and save all the work. I'd be progamming it up though as well to check if the cam driven software came up with the same forecast.

If it does the cam concept is proven. I'd throw in a few more hand coded spots to get a reasonable sample size for proof of concept though.

Why don't we do our own forecasting service? We can link it here to Realsurf and fund it two ways: Pozible, and Carroll Vineyards Venture Capital LLC.

Went sniffing on the McCoy site and noticed some decent pictures of them being out to good use.
