I think the average Brit vastly overestimates how much of a fcuk other nations care about any vestigial remnants of the class system.
certainly wide eyed colonial boys anyhow.

not sure if my pedantry is warranted Gs, but when you put in a - , doesn't it require you to put in another one?

It’s a hangover from an old style guide I worked from ages ago skip. Used instead of a colon rather than for a subclause as you’re suggesting, I think

Not sure, Lucky Al. It was drawn up for a particular project. I’m sure much of it was stolen from other sources mind you

Went to a pub out the Birchgrove end of Balmain a couple of years ago on a Saturday Arvo. Local Band and clientele from 8 to 80. It had that real local community feel you rarely see anywhere these days and rarely saw across that spectrum back in "the good old days".
Back then the kids stayed in the car. That's after mum had progressed to being able to leave the car herself and drink in the ladies lounge. You had to drive 12 klms on a Sunday to prove you were a bonifide traveller and get a drink.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
I worked at an Irish pub in Tuffnel Park. Turned up with no experience and they gave me a go. There was this legendary pisshead there every day who demanded his Guinness was poured perfectly. So it was actually a job to supply this guy with a pint of Guinness every 15 minutes, every day.
In my Brixton edgy days they offered me a room for which I shall be eternally grateful.
The owner was a red faced Irish alcoholic who I saw throw people down the stairs if they didn’t stand up for the Irish National anthem at the end of the night.
Ergo
ENGLISH PUBS RULE

I must say the novelty value worked in my favor as far as barmaids were concerned

Pubs are pretty depressing though I suppose. I remember watching a telly program about alcoholism and it featured this bloke who had wrecked his bones because he couldn’t stop drinking. Was just about to end up in a wheelchair. So far, so tragic except that he drank halves for reasons known only to himself and each one would take him about a minute to sink and when he was done he’d roll the empty glass around on the bar to get the barmaid’s attention. Every single time. What a cnut

anyhoo, i sure did enjoy the latest you tube clip of Nate Florence and his buddy sauntering off for some fun in monstrous Jaws.
and his anecdote about telling the flight hostie that he had a vest that blew up was hilarious.
