Re: Where did you surf today ?
Over the yeats ive had plenty of entertainment watching visitors go out through the keyhole at Moffat.
The tide, swell size and direction all have a say in how you go about it.
Get it wrong and there's a nasty groyne just behind you and guaranteed a clean up set coming for you.
You NEVER paddle straight towards the take off point.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Oh. And tbf, every regular has been caught out, including me.
Sort of like a rite of passage.
And you have to know when to give it away and walk back to the beach and paddle out from there.

I like going to Crescent now and then, just don’t particularly enjoy surfing the main point. I have a mal to surf it when I go that way, but mostly the point is just a bit too slow and trying to surf something shorter is an exercise in frustration.
I like some of the other waves nearby, and their lack of crowds, clean water etc.

Definitely wasn't slow this morning. It was pedal to the metal all the way. The middle section was fast for the first couple of days too. Not as fast as this morning though.
Plomer was very nice yesterday. About shoulder high and breaking left and right. Left just kept running down the beach. You kept thinking it was finished and a new section would pop up. Got one very nice A Frame right as well. Nice take off.

I should of course add that it was pretty marginal for half the time as well on the point and definitely doesn't connect at high tide. In fact it's really crap most of the time and crowded with kooks and learners. The caravan park is full of drunks and marauding grommets on push bikes. There's been bushfires everywhere. Give it a miss.

There was a brief period of clean, light offshore conditions this morn.
Clean and punchy lefts.
Welcome surprise.

Cruddy surf at Tama. Looked better than it was. Waters chilly.

Growing up, it was some classic shots through the pandanus of surfing at Crescent Head that gave the spot its somewhat overrated status. We would stare at the photos for hours. North Coast dreaming. Like this one.

The photo is from Bob Weeks Photography. He has some great 1960s surfing photos available for purchase. Worth a look.

It’s very pretty, and it’s long, and it’s an easy wave.
I give it a shot now and then under certain conditions, but would never bother again during holiday periods.

Good on a mal. The middle works well for nose riding but on a short board it's hard work unless it's got some size. I started hitting it again when I started riding a mal. Really if youre a core short board rider you would go somewhere else. It's full of old stagers, hipsters, grommets and backpackers. I like going there because I can park the car where we are staying and not use it again unless we take a trip to the back beaches. So basically it's a parking spot situation.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Watched an adult learner cop a flogging at Curlie this morning. Nor east swell and east winds, awful conditions.
Bloke was riding a foamie and managed to get out the back but then went way out. By the time he got back to the impact zone, the current had washed him to the south end. Clubbies startling to panic, and nearly flipped the rubber duckie trying to get out to him.
A couple of sets later, had his first impact on the shelf behind the pool. Then another set scraped him down the side of the pool by which time he was in the shore, just as the clubbies got out the back.
Leaking blood out of his elbow and arm and was looking pretty thankful that was as bad as it was.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Years ago we were watching the largish lefts barrelling across Tama towards Bronte from up on the road. This guy on a lid got washed right into the cave under the the cliffs and copped a set smashing into there before he eventually got shot out the north end behind the two big rocks that stick out there. Ripped up pretty well by the barnacles.

Out the front. Water’s gone cold, probs 17-18 deg. Surf was marginal n/e windswell. As Iggy would say, a few runners. Good ones were pretty rare though.

Looked like it was muscling up a bit this am, as I sat in the train to go to Martin Place. I'm doing the backline stage tech production for Field Day on New Year's Day.
