Okay Maroubra is usually a series of quick drop peaky beach breaks which isn't Midlengths like the CSIs forte. Depends how quick on your feet you are. Jacksons used to have the Southside pretty covered. They shut up shop years ago though. Might be worth a trip over to Brookvale. I would avoid most of the retail shops in the Eastern Suburbs although I'm not sure about the shop at The Bra.
My advice is try and deal with someone around your own age or older with a good rep. The advice Ive had over the years from twenty something sales staff in surf shops is laughable.

and the major diff is that the board still flat out trims like a mofo unlike that Chilli which has the front half of the board flapping around in the breeze like a half sucked cock.

good mid has to have that flat out trim speed otherwise its poor design.

I grew up at Tugun.

Watch out for Yuke Hunt from Realsurf.

Get something big and fat if you want to surf Caba. We used to call it Bog A Rail. Bladier for everywhere else.

Yeah I lived there a while back.

An often frustrating wave as I'm sure you know if you lived there. Pretty spot though.

Was awesome in the mid 60s.
Maybe the sand was lined up differently.
Regularly took off just inside the headland and had long walls all the way across the bay to just in front of the rocks.

And there was a whole school of stingrays lived in the bay. You'd look down on them as you surfed.

Yeah, the main beach tended to be a very different wave with not much sand in between unless it was big. Then again Greenmount and Rainbow used to break into the bay as well. Greenmount used to run right down the side of the headland unless it was big. Rainbow was like Ti Tree.
Caba was always a fatter wave. Unless you took off in front of the headland. First person I saw do that was Keith Paull. Gleavy used to do it on a mal.

Has anyone done research on foamie’s.

The nulla is now completely packed due to covid and I’ve had a couple of unfortunate collisions with young grommets getting in the way. Looking to find a single fin 9’ foamie with half decent rails that I can noseride.

The two I have had experience with areSoftlite Chopstick and O&Es Easy Rider. Easy rider was 7’6” but 60+ltrs. Softlite Copstick is 8’ and about the same volume. I liked the Easy Rider and had it for a fair while till I snapped it. Bought the Softlite as a birthday present for the missus She had taken a couple of surf lessons. Anyway I ride that most of the time it gets in the water.
I think all up the Softlite Chopstick is superior. The Easy Rider had big boxy rails with an edge on the bottom. It actually went really fast and trimmed well but turning had to be nursed a bit. The Chopstick has more of a 60:40 rail. It turns and manoeuvres much better. Feels like a regular midlength to ride and trims well. 9’ one would be good I reckon.

My only caveats are for some reason it had a really slippery finish that took a few surfs to get off. That’s plus waxing each surf. TheEasy Rider had a better deck for grip.

Softech that Surftech used to make were like that. I had one I bought second hand. Really heavy and hard to turn.

Few guys here ride softies religiously. It’s clear they could at least ride a decent mid or long board but, are dedicated to the softie in all conditions.
