Here's a mid length I would like:

My long-lost interest in surfing might be making a comeback via a desire to get on something fat and fishy.

I'm a little confused about the volume in litres that gets bandied about. Is there an equation to match the best volume for your height and weight?

I'm 6'4'' and about 104kgs so it'd have to be a big bugger - all these sub-7 footers sound nice but scare me I've been riding longboards (9'6'') and a 7'6'' funboard occasionally for 20-odd years.

Forget litres, just get around a 7’6 with a bit of foam out to the rails.

Yep. Or even 8ft. Flat entry into medium rocker.

Try and find an old Mctavish Carver (or new) or board with similar design features is my take. He still produces them so there would be a description on line.

Yeah, but it kinda brings me back to something similar to what I have, a 7'6'' 'funboard' as they were back in the early 2000s when it was shaped. I'm curious about the shorter and wider options and what that might deliver in the water.

Ok. I ride, fishes and HPSBs a bit (70-80%) My personal take is the blown up hybrids with slabby rockers are the biggest con in surfing. I can turn a nicely curved longer board much easier and smoother than the hybrids. However, it’s a personal thing. Oh yeah then there’s the paddle fitness thing, flow, glide, style and all that jazz.

For example I have an acquaintance about your size who rides a massive Hypto. I’d rather watch a lion eat it’s young. Horrible.

See how you go. It’s all personal EOD.

Check out the Walden Mini Mega Magic type of shape perhaps.

I agree with Thud that the majority of stretched fishes etc don't work well.
I don't think you need to go as long as you think.

I've got a buddy who is 6'6" and 90-95kg and he rides a 6'6" Banks fish and some sort of 6'8" surftech thing with oodles of foam.

Bro, I got a NPJ 6'10 2+1 midlength that goes really well in a lot of conditions that I don't want anymore. Bit battered and bruised but plenty of life in it. PM me if interested..

This could be the best advice in surfing for anyone from a beginner to expert.

It there’s one board a surf needs it’s a 7’6 (in my case 7’7) single fin with/without trailers.

Not a fucken thruster minimal. I’m open to most things. But thruster fin set ups in anything longer than 7’ can get fucked.

I’ve had a water skate. Get it glassed well. They’re the best for Sydney beaches i reckon. I’ve had a 6’8 and a 6’2, both sensational. Rounded pin in the longer models and squash in the short.

Hey thanks for that kind offer. Might be a bit on the small side for me unless it's over 3 '' thick! Given my lack of water time I'd probably best stick to 7' and over. Cheers

I’d say buy it, but for no more than 150 bucks.

And have him throw in a pair of used chinos.
