I’ve always ridden a longboard. In my opinion there’s just no other choice in 1-2ft peeling high tide beachies.

What have you been riding lately?

Still looking around about getting an epoxy mal if a good cheap one comes up but I had thought a Walden Mini Magik might do the trick as you can nose ride them. However they are ridiculously expensive.
When I had a Taka DT2 I ended up using it most of the time with a 6" rear and large side bites. Great longboard for larger surf.

Seems hard to find clips of people riding 8-8’11 boards specifically. Well, if the videos are there, they aren’t tagged to draw attention to the actual board length.
I found one clip of an 8ft comp down Ulladulla way, but it was nothing to right home about.

A search for Devon Howard, Jimmy Gamboa, Harrison Roach, etc should supply some material.

I now have 4 of their boards, 6'10, 7', 7'6 and 9'.

I had an 8’11 gato playboy that was great.
My first surf on it was horrible, felt alien to me and a complete dog, then I came to love it.
I felt like I surfed it well but I probably didn’t.

I ve spent the year thus far almost exclusively on a 8ft vouch vish with s wings, really fun and surprisingly good combination

It does everything I want it to, tried various fin set-ups, ended up with a 7" hatchet fin and two medium sides. All the other mals are too traditional or too performance, its nicely inbetween. Bombproof construction, $650 regular price, $600 on sale (frequent).

Note that all their expoxy boards do not use closed cell foam (but their glassing schedule is over-the-top). But then again, its only recently that Firewire started using closed cell foam (I think, maybe they still don't). Surftech used open cell for about ten years.

I probably want a more high performance one really because I've still got my Rabbidge which is a Cadillac of mals. Great board but really heavy.
Maybe 8'6" and light. If I see an old Tolhurst without the red flames I would snap that up after riding one in Kauai. Not really up to shelling out for one of his Thunderbolt ones. Some of the surfboard warehouse ones do look good though.

They have a 9' PU performance mal: tight little round tail, single into double V concave washing out in the last 9" into a slight V, super hard, sharp rails in the last 2', 6+6 on top with 4 tail patch, 6 on the bottom, double stringer, 4+1 fin setup. $699 regular price. I nearly bought one, but decided on bigger and flatter, though I would have really liked a super hard, sharp rail in the last few feet.

I like the look of that Boulevard Cranked, my 9’3” McTavish is starting to feel a bit long, it’s very heavy and maybe not quite right for me.

I might get one, just so I can call myself a Boulevardier.

I like that they are so cheap I can try out different boards without breaking the bank or selling my favourites. And I can start leaving boards in Bali when I eventually return.

Mate they’re $499 right now, even if you never use it, it’s money well spent just to use that moniker.

I think that might be the 7'6, I have one of those too.
