He has a dowel rod with a little timber platform nailed on top.
Sticks it in the sand and shoots photos, then edits the stand out later.

I conjured up this 2+1 egg in Shape 3d - 6'7" x 19 3/4 x 2 1/2. Its a generic egg but slightly narrower, with a slightly more pulled in tail and more tail rocker. Slight vee nose and tail with a double inside a single concave through the middle.
I was thinking I could ride it in sizie Winkipop, and in small stuff when its crowded. Still pondering whether or not it'll work.

Give the file to someone with a shaping machine?

I've often thought that the custom board process should start with sitting down with a shaper and deciding on the 3D shape you want. You then get a copy of the file that you can use to get the blank cut and glassed , and as a starting point for your next board.

If i was ever going to ride a mid length Pinny, that would be it. Looks good, what do you do from here?

Well, next steps are I have to agonise over every tiny detail of the shape - like should I go 2 7/16ths instead of 2 1/2.
Then I take the file to the Surfboard Studio to listen to Zac tell me how the surfboard industry is full of "tip rats" and to see if they've got a suitable blank and when they can cut the shape on their APS 3000. Then I book a bay to finish the shape. Then I agonise over what glassing schedule to use, actually I've already done this - going with epoxy and s-glass. Then I have to wait till Mrs. Pinhead is going to be out of town for a day or two so I can make an unholy mess in the backyard without being interrupted.

Put a pronounced V about 1.5 ft past the fins all the way to the tail and soften the rails at the back. Might give it a bit more flow. Ah f&ck ignore me I've been caught out with low railed pins before. Great in lined up juice but a bit stiff in less than stellar.

I like. A hi performance mini mal (hello Steve ), which makes it a lot more versatile for a range of conditions than some flattened out hipster mid length.

I've ridden a few hulls and had a vbowls, which was super flat - and you are right. Unless you got a really nice point wave, it can be hard work. That said, when the stars align and you get a nice long beachie, they can be fun. I recently got a gato heroi space pig, which i thought would be far more hipster etc than it is, but is has really good rails, rockered out, and for it's length, 7'6, can jam a hard turn. Will be fun to test its limits out in some bigger waves.

You mentioned you added a Liddle fin which lit it up - do you remember which one? I was surprised by the versatility of this board - scored some really fun 4' beachies on it's first run yesterday and it's unreal. It's currently got a Christenson 8.5" flex fin. The swell this morning dropped since yesterday and this thing grovels unreal too.

We didn’t get along - it needed a better quality wave than the majority of conditions I go out in. It’s a really fine tuned board that I never came close to getting dialled.

I used a 9 inch liddle flex fin for a while, but have moved on to a 8inch greenough 4a. Works perfect. Won't be changing fins again in this board.
