The reason I'd be considering the bigger centre fin would be primarily for overhead waves (think six foot green island or big shelly beach point lefts)

In those sized waves for a board that size, I want it to feel less "thrusterish" and have more depth and stability at the base of the wave, for bottom turns, and laying into a cutback at speed. I don't want quick release, I want hold and drive.

Shearer, what's your take on it? Leave it as is, or put in a fin box, with a 6'5 or 7' (or bigger) centre fin?

Here's the outline and the tail and fin cluster..

How thick is the tail? Could it take a box? I'm having a futures box put in a board to take a 6.5 inch Alkai Dolphin fin, think it might be swallower than standard lox box single for example.

Yeah good point. The tail is pretty lean. I might look at the futures option.

Think I'll take the board down to Jacksons and ask "what do you reckon?"

Dave's great with repairs and restorations etc. and won't waste my time or his if it's a no-go

Would do. But there's no way a clunker sell off would touch the $$ides of a bonzer egg.

thruster midlength is an oxymoron.

you can't pump a 7'6"minimal for speed so it's just wasted drag.

The bloke on the single in the Needs wetsuit site goes OK if a bit predictable. Joel Tudor does it best.

Good point. So do you reckon I should do something re: a centre fin or just leave the board as is? I'm more concerned about will it work, rather than it costing

I reckon if you could get an 8 inch raked Flexi in there it would be a lot of fun. Think it might have a fast fun cut back in it. IMHO

it'd work but with all the buggerising around it might be worth finding something decent to start with

Sounds like a plan. Getting the fins removed and putting in an eight inch raked Flexi sounds totes amaze balls .

It'll still work out cheaper than buying another single midlength.

I'm happy with the board overall. It's got a good amount of rocker (never nosed it on late steep takeoffs) and it goes on rail nicely (low pinched with a rolled deck).

Saw a really nice 7'1" Joel Fitz 2+1 midlength in a shop in Byron for $700 Iggs. Brand new secondhand.

Be a sweet trim machine.

Zak surfboards have a few Maurice cole asymmetrical 9'0" and 8'0" for sale at the moment, $750 for the 8' and $800 for the 9'ers. Set up for regular footers though.
