Best board i've owned. Snapped my old one 6 weeks ago and missed all the good swell riding others while i'm waiting for the new one. Every wave i bombed, i kept thinking, "I'f i had my quartet...." It took some adjustment at first. I'd been riding new tech this and that, farking around with hundreds of sets of find etc, so when i got on it, i was trying to overpower it. After i while i learnt to be less aggressive and go with the wave. It's super fast, glides, rips out cutties like no other and rides a barrel like a dream. It also works from waist high rubbish all the way up to overhead barrels. Pricey and it's taking 8weeks or so for custom, but worth the wait.
You won't regret it.

yeah - has that speed and turn of a twin, but no slide outs. I have a 5'3 squail - step down version of the quartet and i rode it well overhead last week and it didn't slide out. I also have a single, but not really into it. Slides out heaps.

That's my kind of quad setup!. My tiny JD at the moment has a standard setup, though I'd like to try big twins in the front and longboard sides in the back. Be a while before I get to try it but keen to see.
I tried indo fins, but the big keels extra cant just gave it too much lift in head high waves. Switched to a set of standard 4.5" and 4.2" fins and it surfs much better. Still enough drive but so much more manouverable.
Batoes, you love small boards in big waves huh?!

less so as i get older....i rode that 5'4 tomo in silly stuff for a few years, including Tahiti. I only rode the 5'3 because i under estimated how that south swell would get into minnos!
Can't wait till i get the 2+1 and the quartet - then it will go flat.

Neal Purchase jnr is a decent bloke and quite genuine and a good surfer but a lot of the boards in that video look like they'd be a nightmare for your average pommy expat flapping around at south maroubra. But whatever his kids have gotta eat too. So yeah I reckon you should buy a bunch of em.
Make sure you order one of the wacky reverse rocker jobs he was talking about. That'd do wonders for your surfing.

I think your average backpacker would aspire to do about that much on a wave.

Hey Steve, did you get a Quartet... Wasnt sure if thats what you were insinuating from your first post, it was a bit hard to make sense of?
I am thinking about one of 2+1's in a longer length... anyone here tried one of those?

What are your initial thoughts on the 2+1 Batoes?
I have a quartet which took me a little while to get used to, still not 100% there but some real potential there I feel.
Foot placement seems to be more important than standard quads, I used to surf my other board a fair bit forward, the quartet seems to like your feet closer to the fins.

I agree completely. It took me a while to narrow the ol stance right on the tail - but once i got it - gee what a difference it made to my surfing. I snapped my old one and got a new one and i'm back to adjusting as the tail isn't as loose.
I've ridden the 2+1 about 3 times. It is a genuine step-up - rocker and all so unless the waves are solid - it just doesn't go. I really need a few back to back solid sessions to get a feel for fin placement (an indo trip would be good...) That said - i did get one cracker of a right hander about a month ago and love the feeling of stability off the top. Sometimes the quartet slides and drifts, but the 2+1 dug in like thirsty tick.
Somewhere down the track i'd like to get a smaller 2+1 as a daily driver, but as Steve mentioned, they ain't cheap and i would have to sell off a few to justify that sort of madness. Should be able to get it out tomorrow arvo - but need to find somewhere that isn't maxed out.
