Given most boards are machine-shaped now, and I'm guessing the Psillakis ones done under licence are probably with a CAD (or similar) file, is there any difference getting one made under licence as opposed to one imported which was probably machine or ghost shaped anyway?

Those zak boards are shaped by the man hinself. You can tell as he signs his name and dims. in the deck center, and writes 'peace' on the tail.

On the other i doubt they would give a license to someone who could not faithfully reproduce what is essentially a lifes work.

The 2+1 - 6'0, 19, 2 3/8 - gets its first run tomorrow. My bonzer mini light vehicle fin put a rather large hole in my quad three weeks back and i just got the stitches out....Looking forward to it.

You are a sick bastard - and i love it. So that Russ Short is replacing the 6'8? I'm keen to hear about the difference between the two.
Picking up the 5'6 mlv, which has been repaired at Rhino, next week. Dangerous in there....so many nice bonzers.

Ok ,apart from one inch shorter, they have pretty much the same dims. However, the Russ has wide point a couple on inches north of center, beak nose, fuller rails, lower entry rocker and more much forward foam. The back end is pretty similar. End result is the Russ has at least 10% more volume. Will sacrifice a tad of turning radius, but better paddle power.

Wicked gash. My Al Merrick Fish had the sharpest set of quad fins I've ever had. Seriously did my heal in quite a few times just brushing against them.

i'm a fan of the ol' wide point forward - that's what i like about the mlv. I've found myself shifting forward and it just gets faster. Would love a Russ Short - 3fin around 5'8 or so. BUT, far too much crossover with my quartet.
Copped another little fin chop on the ankle today actually....

love both of those bonzers. if i had to pick one, it'd be the russ short model. reckon it'd be more versatile in a broader mix of conditions and size. and it would certainly handle anything the more contemporary one would. both are beautiful, but the beefed up foil and wide point forward is me all over.

Beanpole wouldn't you have dulled the fins a bit after the first cut?
I sliced my thumb open on a plastic M7 just putting my board in the car, then took to them with some wet & dry straight away.

With apologies, can I ask a totally kook question (is that like starting a sentence with 'I'm not a racist but...?). Put it down to me neither being competent nor having had the chance to surf a variety of boards

So - other than the additional volume, if you had two boards of the same dims and same rocker, but one had the wide point higher up (chest level) and the other mid board level, what is the practical difference between the boards in terms of how they handle, turn, paddle into waves (ignoring the volume difference) and so forth? Why pick one over the other?

Nah, just learned to spread my legs a bit more
Got some nice parings on the ankle before that. Haven't ridden it in ages actually. Had some of the most memorable waves in ages on it but the strike rate was so low it rarely gets dragged out as a regular go to. Really happy with my current 7fter. Winged swallowtail.
