Re: Who still rides a fish?
Have a Mackie 5'8 quad fishy hybrid thats fun once i got the fins right, also have a 6'6 fishy stubbie hybrid which is a great board for me from 2-6ft. I reckon his boards need a bit of power in the waves even the 5'8. Good guy to, had a good old chin wag and he showed me around this shaping bay got talking about the Winterstick influence etc...he has a full passion for what he's doing and is an interesting bloke.

Re: Who still rides a fish?
I got a 6’2 Billy Tolhurst quad fish about a month ago. Small rear fins.
First quad, first fish. Had been riding MR retro twins almost exclusively for the couple of years before.
And I am STOKED! My other boards are gathering dust, I go straight to the quad every time.
Its a wave catching machine, fast, turns on a dime, goes vert like I thought I never would again….I’m gettin old and thought those days were behind me.
Happy as.

Re: Who still rides a fish?
no traditional fish for me, got 2 Fat-Bats which are pretty fishy in planshape and quads...dust em off every once in a while but the mini-simmons stuff is going great for me and am enjoying them a helluva lot..... nuthin wrong with a fish, nuthin wrong with any design, they all go and I enjoy em all...

Ok, so this is already in the JD shapes thread, but a fish belongs in the L,E,A thread, and i started this thread, so here it is again.
Got it wet this morning but total crap, so no real feel for it yet, though it is very fast n loose. Woo hoo.

Re: Who still rides a fish?
I love my quad fish and I just wonder why I didn't get one sooner. Look at all my other boards and scratch my head. Only a short while ago I reckoned I had my ideal setup but all I want to do is ride my current board which is a foot shorter than anything else. I just wonder whether I will keep half of them.

That is a sweet ride beery - do the little side fins act like a twinzer set-up?

That is a beautiful looking board Mark.
The assymmetrical fins look like JD's been on the secret sauce when he cut them out.
They'll always be a talking point.
Any more ride reports?
I'd like to see a rocker and rail shot.
JD's boards all look like razor blades compared to what I ride and I know you LOVE volume.

Re: Who still rides a fish?
2nd surf today in glassy head high left over S swell. Faaaaaaaaaarrrrrrkkkkkkk! haha, i skated and skidded around on a few of the hollower ones at first, it is so freaking fast and loose!. Still feeling it out, but after a few managed to get a better idea of where to stand on it. So much fun. I did the BEST turn i've ever done bar none. Came off the bottom on my backhand, up near the lip went for a cutback, and this thing just buried the rail and a whipped down and around back into the foam at mach 1, friggin awesome, smooth as silk, and fast as hell. Ended up getting a really nice frontside cutback as well. So stoked on this board. Need to get used to it a bit more, but im seriously loving it. Was laughing out there today, was so much fun.

That's why we want custom board builders like Josh Dowling to be doing his thing.
Beautiful work, awesome looking board, and another happy customer.

Hey Beery, congrats on an amazing looking board. What size is it?

Nice shape there wingnut, local??.
Cuttles, it is thinned out more than I normally ride, rail volume wise, but still plenty of foam. 17"wide nose, 16 1/2" tail so plenty of width. Its super light, crazy light, but is not corky at all. Need more weetbix than when paddling the 9'1", shit that's not a fair comparison is it!?. Volume wise im very happy with it. Might ask josh the volume in litres out of curiosity. Love it, so good!!!

Other forums don't require you to use something like Photobucket?Wingnut wrote:My 5'10" Friedman Flyer...wouldn't mind trying a 5'6" in the future...

Pretty well any I've seen do. Unless they have great vloumes of advertising to pay for the space.
I do agree however about the restrictions caused by the space taken up on the RHS.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.
