i was at a certain shop last week and if you have $1300, i got you your board.
handshaped, gloss finished red, brand spanking new gerry lopez 7'6" gun. just the rails on this thing is a vision of beauty and complexity you won't find on any other board in the world. for reals.

Webby showed me a shaped blank of a Desert Storm....slightly forward weighted outline screamed paddle power and tube riding. He's on fire with Guns at the moment.

Yeah I saw that board today. Add 600 clams for full retail.
Wasn't shaped by Lopez.

interesting.
when you see gerry lopez handshapes on the decal, you kinda expect it to be a gerry lopez handshape.
still, an unreal board.

probably Paul Hutchinson, Australias best ghost shaper. He's got the Lopez licence in Aus.
I've ogled the Lopez guns at the Bear/Takyama shop in Byron many times.

yep that'd be him.
there's a 7'8 Mark Richards 'bustin' down the door' lightning bolt single next to the Lopez as well, bit more foiled in the nose with little flyers/flutes in the tail

i got a funny takyama story.
my last trip to hawaii, i was meant to bring back a tokoro for a friend I worked with who knew him. Since he was getting one, i figured if i get any kind of 2-for-1 deal, i'll buy one for meself too.
I went around and saw wade to get the boards ... only wade had never heard of the guy. so i'm describing what he looks like and wade's kinda nodding his head, looking confused. he showed me a few boards off the rack and i picked two of them. b'cos my mate was big, i figured he'd need the sunny garcia model.
grab the two boards and come home. i drove to the mate's house to deliver his board, feeling a little like father christmas. i get there and he'd just deadpanning me asking if this was a joke.
i got tokoro confused with takyama. yeah, i'm that guy. haha

nah ... he was/ is a mal rider
i thought it was weird he was asking for a short board, but just put it down to the fact he knew wade. haha
to stop him from whinging i had to buy the board off him.

I'd love a Tokoro, or an Arakawa channel bottom same as the one AI rode at Cloudbreak.
Mark Plater at Maddog can shape those MR replica single fins. How sweet are those fluted flyers on them?

i was spewing ... i'd just done a whole profile piece with eric at his home on the hill at waimea, then we drove over to haleiwa took some photos of him shaping. he had so many nice boards, and i wanted to come back home with arakawa. but because i was seeing wade later on and i knew i'd be scoring a deal, i saved my money for the tokoro. if i had my shit in order, i woulda known it was a takyama, not a tokoro and I coulda bought the arakawa. (say that 5 times fast, shearer)
it was a great board. snapped it across the tailpad at 4ft burleigh after about 3 months, though... was spewing
