I haven't been surfing mine in a while, the waves have been so good to warrant my HPS (Swinger) all the time. I'm totally missing it though, it'll make the speed fresh all over again when I jump back on it :D

Looks great Mark! :)

They're an amazing breed, how they stay on top of the water through turns and don't "dig" and "sink" into the wave as much when you turn (causing less drag than narrow rockered tails). Its such a different surfing experience, total fun and glide...

Its like it takes far less energy for the board to get up to planing speed and stay there. Something which usually comes in mals, but in something around 5 foot! :D

Soooo - I currently have a 9'2" mal for tiny little crappy days when I cant ride my waterskate.

The mal is actually pretty fun on sub 1ft days, but is an absolute pain in the bum to store and cart to and from the beach. I really like the idea of a mini-simmons, purely cause I can just chuck it in the boot of the car!

So all the hype aside, will the mini-simmons actually work on REALLY little crappy days, where the mal currently does, or do they still need at least a little bit of push in the wave to plane effectively? (considedring that the wskate works OK in 2ft+ fattish, smaller wave days too)

Hi all,

I don't post often and I don't mean to post this here but as this is a Mini-Simmons thread I thought I would give it a go.

I'm selling my Simmons as I'm resizing so if anyone is interested please PM me.

5'6 x 21 3/8 x 2 11/16 Modernised rails so works from 1 to 4ft. This would suit anyone from 75 to 90kgs.

Dark Green tint, matching green fixed fins and polish.
New: $880
It's near new $750 or nearest offer.

Beautiful looking board but also super fun to ride.

Sorry I don't know how to post pictures.

Mods please feel free to delete this if I'm out of line.

The flatter the rocker the less energy you need from the wave itself. Mine was super flat, but not 0 rocker. Maybe about 0.5-1" of tail rocker with a deep single that flattened the stringer rocker.

Mark will know a lot better than me, but it seems those with more modern rockers that can be surfed top to bottom easily tend to like waves with a little wall.

Who makes these? 15 kilos is a pretty big size range. is it too small for you or too big. how much do you weigh.

Hey ripper,

It is a big range and it will depend on the rider and what they want to ride it in.

Shaped by Jesse Watson - great shaper.

I am 6'0 x 85kgs. Jesse is 92kgs and these are the dimensions he surfs his Simmons. A mate of mine is 75kgs and he loved these dimensions in waves from 1 to 3ft. So that is why I put in that range as it really is up to what you want to ride it in.

I'm planning on going shorter, slightly wider, and slightly thicker.

I had my 5'1 out at the farm today in clean 4ft - it goes off in walls and crumbling waves from 1ft-4ft, i don't ride anything else in these sort of conditions now. But it is not my board of choice in sucky shoreys
They are different from a mal, you'll get more push on a 1fter from a mal, but you'll be able to turn and trim on simmons.

I reckon you would have to be careful with fin positioning depending on how much tail rocker you have. A very flat rocker (1" or under) with fins close to the tail will be pretty hard to turn.

Mark has done some good experimenting and has the rocker pretty dialed, he would be a good person to ask.

I do like slabby, wide boards and came across this...
http://www.haydenshapes.com/page_var151
There's not too many boards I'll see in surfshops that appeal to me but saw the Hypto kyrpto (poly version) in a local shop yesterday while buying wetties for my kids.
There was a DHD pocket knife with a similar planshape but slighly thicker foil next to it as well. Can't find any info on the net about the pocket knife.
They also had one Shred sled in Fibreflex but after seeing the used "Bob" on their website I'd be put off the tech because of the way I can destroy decks on lightly glassed boards.
Had a look at the website and was impressed at the size of the waves the rippers are riding these litlle slabs in.
Still waiting to test the upper limits of my 5'6" mini simmons although there hasn't been too much in the way of waves over 3' around here for a long time.
Only a rat can win the rat race.
