Winter Surf
gday,
just wondering how many of you out there actually get out in the water in the winter, or just pack the board away when the water gets too cold for spingy's.. personally im too tightarse now to buy a steamer so i pack the board away till springy can be used..
any thoughts?

The surf is the best in winter why waist the opportunity if i couldn't afford a steamer i'd wear a springy even down south. A true surfer will surf in any condition bearable to the human body or if the surf's outta control. However, NSW's water is quite warm in comparison to the rest of Australia think of our foe' braving the Tassie Winter in 8-11degree water whereas up here where in luxury with the coldest temperature hittin the mercury at a warm 17C
i got a steamer for the previous winter. supprisingly i didn't go out much, mainly because of 3 reasons:
*uni
*i live 40 minutes from beach so the cold weather never appeals to you
*i forgot the 3rd
im back in a phase where i want to go whenever i have spair time, however we have been gifted with the temperature these last few months. I wore boardies only a month ago and it was fine.
its also a lot harder to wake up for the early when your room is cold in the morning.
i only went on one reall wintery day last winter. Its was probably around 15 degrees, windy as, no sun, bit of rain, and although the water comfortable with my 3.2mm wetty, the wind was a killer. My hands would almost feeze so i would dip them in the water to heat up.
Taking that wetsuit off at the car is definetly the worst part.
THe second worst part is the first few moments in the water.
did i mention waking up?

tom Bb....you are a soft cock.
you simply cannot be a passionate booger with out surfing in winter...
the best surf comes in winter. you dont get big swells fanned by offshores that we have witnessed over the past week in summer. plus you'll never get any better if you aint surf for half the year.
well i guess the cold water weeds out the talent

haha yeah the water temp remains at 17 degrees..thats still bloody warm compared to some places..my best wetty is a 3mm 100% superstretch dunes..long arm, short leg, and recently in months of april and may ive been hot at time..
in my opinion over the winter - on the NSW coast, u dont need anything fatter than a 3mm steamer, and long legs isnt even that necessary
but hey some of us get colder than others
oh also, if u dont like getting your wetty off before the car, drive home in it (mine remains warm fer ages) and then jump in the shower with it. dont have water too hot, but slightly warm, melts all the salt & sand off it and saves u getting real cold
