i'm not going ride it all the time...but in a crew thousands out the point
i did find it librating be the only one different among the sheep
plus...it lets me get kegged in smaller waves and too me...thats what it's all about hey......i think u know wat i mean
i also think by going for a kick now and again it's a good body workout
like paddlin a shortyboard is just all upper body strength
you use more muscles surfin with flippers...imo
i'm just chasing advice on brands and such....i got sensitive feet

my gut feeling is call into eppos store down moobaa and let him sort it for me
[unless u can reccommend the bomb on ebay ]

Re: flippers
they could sort you i guess, the one thing that's weird about flippers is the price, for example when i was ten years old, churchills were $75, then for a while they were $40, then $90 it doesn't make any sense to me.mustkillmulloway wrote: my gut feeling is call into eppos store down moobaa and let him sort it for me

these days there are flippers (or fins as some call them) that don't hurt as much as some of the older brands, try on them all and tell them you want comfort but not at the expense of power.
you can get soft flippers that don't tire you out, but don't do anything (in my opinion), then there are harder ones that can hurt your foot if your not used to them, or if paddling a long way out to sea. but you eventually get used to them.
there are also some brands that can cut the #### out of your feet, but most of them have newer versions out that are less prone to cut your ankles.
the old manta blades were bad for this.. i glued wetsuit material around the heal strap to stop this.
then they brought out the blade 2 which supposedly didn't cut your feet.
also invest in some vb cord and put two slip knots (uni knots) in it to use as flipper savers.

Re: flippers
i use Redleys and Pods, and have a heaps of assorted old dusty manta blades of different sizes at mums.
Both redleys and Pods are good but see how you go at the shop trying a few on.

Re: flippers
you need to decide what your priority is, swim fins and bodyboarding fins have different purposes and are very different in shape and style.
bodyboard fins are much stiffer, and are designed for a quick burst of speed, swim fins are designed to make normal kicking motion easier.
it also depends on how 'loose' your ankle is which fin you'll like the best, and how strong your legs are.
really stiff fins give you more speed, but you can't keep it up for long (e.g. paddling against a rip, though most surfers will use their arms), and you're more likely to get cramps in your calves.
the cheapo redback ones might be alright.fangz wouldn't.
shorter blades are better for dropknee, it can be a bitch to get the front leg around with a fin on.
old churchills on ebay are a good option, but remember the sizing will change as they stretch, and salt and sun are bad for flippers.
hydro, o&e banzai look okay. get ones with large drainage holes and smooth heelstraps

^^^I noticed there's a few episodes dedicated to the search, but my curiousity has got the better of me. Did you find the elusive flipper, or do I have to watch all the videos to find out?

Re: flippers
I like to muck around on a lid when its too crowded in summer and there is often a good wave in the flags. I used to buy Hydros out of loyalty but actually found my best ever pair was an old pair of Mantas I bought at Vinnies. Hlf the point has busted of each fin now which makes them go better as long as I put them on the right feet. Have an old manta lid which is also the best.
