So by definition as soon as you have any kind of "industry" behind an activity you begin to compromise it, your coming up against profit / loss equations which may lead you in directions you dont want to go in order to stay fiancially "viable". Theres no doubt that with an injection of "big" outside money the industry / tour side of the sport would benefit, bigger promo's, bigger events etc,but who would benefit??? Probably not avaerage joe BBer, what happens if / when that outside money pulls out for whatever reason???

The question is fundamentally really who do you want pulling the strings in control of the "industry", which you need in for bbing to continue to exist in a similar form as it is now. Guys that love the sport as a much as you, or the a junior level exec in some multinational??? I think thats Foster arguement..... feel free to argue with me.... cause im sure im wrong on multiple points. Free exchange of ideas welcome.

Theres an excellent interview with Tom Morey here http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/ta ... 729&cmd=tc where tom talks about how he hates that the bodyboard has been "hijacked" by people who had to make it all "gymnastic" and "extreme". He wanted it to be a board for "everyone" to experience the ocean with.

None of the big companies are in it for pure reasons - they're public listed corporations. I deal with some of these guys on a commercial level - They can be profit hungry meat whistle tuners.
The money they put back into comps is a marketing ploy to get brand recognition in the mainstream media = more sales.
Paying a pro rider big coin and sending him around the world is more advertising! Pay him $100k + and he'll give you 5 times that in sales.
