Riptide and Movement SAME COVER!?

Post by kurtisb » Sat Aug 09, 2008 4:32 pm

hey everyone,
I'm sure you have all realised that riptide and movement have the same covers for the coming issue (due out in the next week if not already) of Mitch Rawlins backdooring a mother of a wave, just wondering what the deal with it is...i.e Are they aloud to etc etc and your thoughts.
thanks

yeah movement cover shot is by Chris White, rippies by erick regnard (tungsten). from what ive heard rippies got the shots from erick first then mm got whiteys shots, and then realised rippies would be using the same shots - hence their press release about a week back with the vid interview of rawlins and the cover. rippies then pushed their mag release a bit earlier i think to gain exclusivity. moral of story - whitey and erick should have talked about where they were sending shots.

Greetings forum friends!

To answer a few questions for y'all, RT's latest cover was indeed shot by Mr Erick Regnard (aka TUNGSTEN), whereas the other chaps' cover was shot by Chris White. It's the same wave from the same session and as you can see, both photogs were in a pretty similar position.

Riptide will be on sale in newsagents one week today on Wednesday August 13, but some subscribers might even have copies this Friday, as will a couple of bb shops, so keep an eye out for the blingin' gold Riptide masthead! We should have copies in here at RT HQ within the hour, so we're damn excited! The full sequence of the wave is in Shooting Gallery too, so you can see how thing's panned out for Mr Rawlins...

We agree it's a shit of a situation, but it is an amazing moment; can't argue with that. Simply put, we didn't think there was any chance that our friendly rivals at Movement would run the same shot on the cover, as they knew in advance that Riptide would be on sale approximately 3 weeks prior to their mag, and that we had Erick's images from the session.

Alas, both mag's will be hitting the shelves with the same shot; a first in the world of Aussie bodyboarding mags as far as I know. One thing's for sure, Rawlins is loving life right now! And hell, who doesn't love a bit of controversy?

Hope that answers a few questions, friends.

naw - RT Ed

woooooo same shot different mag get a life, why does anyone care? ooo movement stole riptides cover, riptide stole movements, whats it really matter? sick wave, sick shots, sick mags..obviously they cant be too angry because they both decided on the same cover when they probably could of easily changed it. so deal with it
