What shortboard

Ok, so I have a pretty nice quiver of 2+1's, singles, quads, twins etc but I have come to realise that I could really use a dependable thruster for when it's 4-6ft, junky, shifty and sectiony... I haven't bought a board like this for a while.

Was thinking Simon Anderson,Psillakis - a local shaper who knows what Sydney beachies are like- a lot of boards of mine for the past 2 years have come from shapers up near the GC points - these boards go great when the waves suit.

Any recommendations?

Check out outerislands surfboards. Beautiful lines, no fancy wings hips dips or whatever the latest gimmick is, just surfboards for good waves.

Or get a Simon. You're built larger than most pros right? So is Simon.

I'd like something like this.

But I'd probably be better off with a short minimal from him haha. Still, clean outlines

Yeah, had a couple of Simons boards before and they were pretty good - going back 5 or so years now... Are all his boards out the factory in Thailand these days?

Outerisland look pretty cool, will do some research...

Don't know but I'd guess so.

Outerislands have a very good rep for high quality

About the only boards that'd tempt me away from JD are Campbell bros ( love an egg ) or an Outerislands.

Post pics whatever you get.

Psillakis Mini Ninja awesome as is his Quad Fish with 5 plugs its more of an all arounder where as the Ninja is more HPS. But have a look at the Ninja on Mikes site, I think it might make sense to you re: the boards your riding (we have had simialr boards and I'm just a bit heavier). Just sayin.

Has anyone surfed one of those outer island 'flex tails'? Thoughts?

I think I like the look of the Ninja Davros. Compliments the rest of the quiver nicely but does the job where I need it.

Don't get too caught up in brands and marketing labels. Go to a good surf shop with a good range. Go through the rack (second hand or new) and put boards under your arm to find one you like and suits. Ignore the label on the board up until this point. You can even ignore the dimensions up until this point if you like. Once you find something you really like you may be surprised by the brand you have chosen.
I just think it is human instinct to lean towards 'brand names' even though the board you would otherwise really like the best has a different brand on it. Also buying off the rack is 'safer' than getting a custom by a shaper you don't know and who has never seen you surf. Good luck.

I kind of disagree with that, I think a shaper that has a decent range of proven boards but can be tweaked to suit weights, age etc...is a good way to go. Just sayin.

I've got 3 boards from JD. We don't even live in the same state, and the first two I've loved, the 3rd I got yesterday and haven't surfed yet, but am in love with already.

Mind you I couldn't tell the difference between a 6'1" x 18 x 2 7-16, and a 6'0" x 18 x 2 7-16 either.

I've come to realise that I absolutely don't need a conventional thruster in my quiver...they just don't do it for me.
Carry on!
