Nice board Tonks but step-up to what?

6"1" is still a tiny board. What kind of surf is it for?

It's actually a 6'2. Shaped for waves in the 6-8ft range. Said to Muzz that I'd likely take it to West Aus at some point. Normally surf a 5'10, so a 6'2 isn't that tiny for me.

no, don't be so sensitive.

I've got lots of experience surfing over there and I'm curious as to where you'd ride a 6'2" in 6-8ft surf.

So sensitive? I'd suggest recent exchanges support my apprehension.

Steve IIRC you said yourself that on your last desert trip you rode a 6'0" when you would previously have ridden a 6'6"

I've met you both and you've got 10 kegs and at least 10cm on tonks. He's got much better hair

that's why I'm trying to find out where he plans to use his 6'2'.

if it's for those desert waves then you can ride shorter.

still reckon you need a 6'3" plus.

I rode a 6'9" on the biggest days which were 6ft+.

I'd like to get up to those desert waves at some point. Looks like it would be a great experience and by that I don't just mean the surfing. Saying that, the logistics/cost of getting there on my own is a bit of an issue. Where I end up surfing will depend on these sorts factors and when I can get away from work, an issue that's come up since I got the board.

As you've probably gathered from previous discussions, riding bigger waves is not something I have a great deal of experience with, so I'd be looking at options that are relatively user friendly. Open to suggestions.

To my way of thinking I reckon guys are riding boards way too short when the waves get sizey.

Read Simon Andersons thoughts on it.

For a WA step-up I'd be looking at least at a 6'9". First things first you need the paddle power to catch the wave. Extra rail length feels damm good too unless your Kelly Slater.

I think Simon Anderson has 7-8 inches and 40 kgs more than tonks ... ;)
