Paint Questions

Post by Morrie » Tue Aug 02, 2011 11:55 am

Was told to re-locate the thread here?

Guys few simple simple questions, what paints can i use on my board. Its got some dings in it, but i've patched most of them up. I read somewhere that you have to use acrylic. And also i don't have a tone of money to spend on this, but i do have an air compressor and spray gun.
And also some advice about clear coating would be nice :)

Thank you :)

Mate, painting surfboards that are already glassed reduces yours options. Basically the only option you have is to use an acrylic lacquer. You get them at your super cheap auto type shops. I use them when I'm doing rushed pin lines on my own boards (not on boards I do for others, I do them on the foam).

Any type of clear acrylic will do for your sealer coat.

Good luck.

Any type of clear coat is fine? Doesn't matter if its high gloss or satin?

Morrie, I just use a standard clear acrylic you buy from Bunnings, I think it's just a gloss. Either way I'm pretty sure either will do the job. Not many people paint the whole boards on the glass although you do often see a lot of art work.

Have a look at swaylocks.com It's a great site for surfboard making info and you'll find some answers in the archives there.

Be sure to post a picture for us all once you're done.
