me too +100. Only time I surf here on weekends is either a quick hour at dawn or if I take my sister or a mate who's learning out. Mostly them I just swim out with them and body surf. Sydney summer weekends are stoooooooopid. NOT fun.alakaboo wrote:I've given up surfing on the weekends in Sydney for the same reason. If i go to the beach on the weekend, I walk, and make sandcastles with my kids. Far, far more enjoyable than surfing at a crowded beachbreak where half the muppets are going right on lefts.
Even the dawn crew here on weekends are nuts. Good luck to them if thats the only time they can surf, but at least respect the others in the surf quietly enjoying a sunrise wave. There are several loud obnoxious groups of older cnuts who only surf on groups of 6 or more. Theres one group with 2 goats, 1 kneelo and 3 or 4 mals that always end up where i'm surfing early sunday morning and they think they own the place. When they come out its time for a coffee and go home.
At least on weekends I can drive for an hour and get uncrowded(ish) waves - but then I feel guilty for adding to the crowd down the coast.

Good topic Fong, ya shit stirrer! Love it.
As you know, I surf all year round, Summer and Winter. The difference being I only wear a pair of board shorts.
Oh, actually, I did wear a long sleeve rashie right in the middle of winter this year, it was a 5 hour session and didn't want to get to burnt. Maybe I need to purchase some type of "cool" suit, you know, for when the water gets too warm!

Re: people who only surf in summer
This is usually when I do the least surfing. Spring in Sydney: ordinary banks, ordinary swells, coldish water, tourists, the return of crowds, end of year commitments, piss ups etc, etc. Still great if you can snare a quite one though.

Re: people who only surf in summer
I'm having some great surfs, catching heaps of waves per surf, and getting plenty of banks to myself in Sydney, I don't know what you all are whinging about
Having a high-volume mini-simmons has a lot to do with that though, I'm so glad I'm not humping around on a foiled out performance board if I don't want to...

I discovered on Swellnet an Eco friendly tip that could be used on seagulls.iggy wrote:
Save trees, use bread slices to wipe your bum after a pre-surf crap, disposal is eco friendly = feed to seagulls.

I hate crowds so much I do this too. And I live in yamba.alakaboo wrote:I've given up surfing on the weekends in Sydney for the same reason. Fortunately I have a flexible job, and it'll be even more so come next year.

I think I've given up surfing 3 or 4 times due to crowds. Bloody Gold Coast. Grrrr.

I usually ride a bike on weekends but sometimes late afternoons when the crowds leave it can be good, or if it rains! No one likes to get wet.
Re: people who only surf in summer
broke my rule today, was rewarded with the most ridiculous bluebottle swarm I've ever encountered.
tried to tough it out, but after 5 stings my lymph nodes started swelling up and i couldn't feel my front foot or one of my hands. surfing kind of went downhill from there
Wondered why the surf wasn't too packed
